Although Kian didn’t seem particularly resistant, he looked at me once and then lay down with his head on Sycar’s leg.
Awkward situations should be filled with frequent physical contact.
It was a peaceful afternoon with the sparkling sunlight coming through the dense recordings and the warm breeze.
Sycar pulled on the rabbit ear headband on his head and said, “Can we stop wearing this now?”
“Don’t you see everyone wearing it and sleeping? Today, let’s think that we’ve become a rabbit family and wear it.”
“Thinking of wearing something like this, the people where you live have really bizarre ideas.”
“Why? It’s cute.”
Seeing Sycar turning his head away with a sulky face, grabbing his palm on the floor, the incident at the previous feast came to mind.
Words I didn’t know at the time.
“Kumama.”
Sycar looked at me, startled, at my words.
“Kumama.”
I could see Sycar’s earlobes turning red.
Vika said this word is in Elvish, but is it not a spell that makes Sycar’s ears turn red when you know it?
Sycar, looking surprised, now smiled as if he understood.
“Yeah. At that time, I just let it go, but thinking about it, you asked Vika about that word.”
“Yeah. Was that what it meant? So, your face back then…”
“What are you talking about? When did my face ever look like that!”
“Your face is still red now. If you don’t believe me, see it through my memories. Then you’ll know.”
When I reached out my hand, Sycar tried to take my hand but stopped.
“Enough.”
“Right. The Marquis will come later today.”
“Why does that guy keep coming to the Duke’s house on Family Day? I don’t understand.”
I held Kian’s hand tightly as I looked at him sleeping.
“Kian needs friends of the same age.”
“Kian only needs a loyal servant who will serve him with all his heart. He may not need a friend like that.”
“Kian will listen.”
“Don’t worry. He’s sleeping without knowing anything about the world.”
If that’s the case, it’s fortunate. If Sycar had sensed popularity from Kian, he wouldn’t have said such things.
Sycar and I closed our eyes quietly while feeling the breeze blowing. As we did, our eyelids gradually grew heavier, and without realizing it, we fell into a nap.
When I woke up, Vika and Durion were not in sight, and I was in Sycar’s arms.
“Where did Miss Vika and Mr. Durion go?”
“While you were taking a nap, I asked them to find and eliminate the nightmare spirits.”
I see. Nightmares can still occur even during a nap.
“Miss Vika must have had a hard time.”
“If she knows that, we need to find and eliminate the cause quickly. However, we don’t know the cause… So it’s a dilemma, dealing with recurring nightmares without knowing the cause.”
Listening to Sycar’s words, I realized that Kian was looking at me with a worried expression.
“S, Sycar. Kian is listening, you know.”
Sycar said with a somewhat indifferent expression, “Does Kian need to know?”
“Don’t worry him unnecessarily.”
As expected, Kian looked at me with so much worry.
“Are you having nightmares?”
“Ah, no, it’s not that, Kian. You don’t have to worry about it.”
But Kian’s face already seemed filled with concern.
“How can I not worry?”
“It’s just unnecessary worry.”
“There must be a solution.”
“Yeah, we’ll find it, so Kian, just focus on your future. I don’t want to give you any worries. It’s too embarrassing for me.”
Kian nodded helplessly.
“Alright. But please let me find a solution. It would be embarrassing for me if I couldn’t do anything for Mother.”
Kian’s touching words made my nose tingle again.
“Kian, you really know how to move me.”
“Mother always moves me.”
“Kian…”
We embraced each other with a heart full of love as if moved.
Suddenly, Kian pulled away from me, as if something had come to his mind.
“Right, Mother. I’ll give this to the Marquis now.”
If he’s talking about a carnation, right?
Sycar looked at me as if asking what he meant, and I smiled back at him with a smile of repentance.
He might not like it much considering his personality, but it would be quite surprising.
“Alright. Kian, should we surprise the Marquis?”
“Yes, Mother.”
As expected, Kian took out a carnation from the picnic box. He handed it to Sycar and said.
“Thank you for raising and caring for me. Marquis. This is a carnation I personally raised.”
Sycar, looking somewhat surprised, accepted the carnation handed by Kian. And his reaction completely exceeded my imagination.
Sycar laughed as if he were crazy.
“Hahaha! Kian! I didn’t know you’d prepare something like this! Hahaha! Thank you, Kian! I’m so happy that I’m bursting into laughter! Hahaha!”
Well, what’s this? Such a reaction?
Is it possible that Sycar really got a head injury on the battlefield, or is he, is he not crazy…?
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
