When Beltran paid at the dressing room, I saw it. His purse had become noticeably thinner.
“Now, let’s go to the restaurant [dash].”
“Your Highness, I have a place I want to go!”
Ignoring Beltran’s words, who was obsessed with a fancy restaurant, I walked away without hesitation.
While Beltran followed me with a frowning face.
This time, my destination was the blacksmith shop.
“Why the blacksmith shop…?”
“Collecting weapons is a hobby of mine.”
Lie.
‘Metal types are so expensive. On top of that, if they’re enchanted, the price goes through the roof.’
Beltran seemed to have the same thought, as his expression darkened suddenly. However, I had already seen through Beltran’s personality for a long time.
Beltran had a strong ego and only pretended to be extravagant. If you teased him a bit, he would quickly yield.
So, looking at Beltran, I exaggeratedly blinked my eyes and said, “Your Highness must have an excellent eye for weapons, right? I heard you’re strong. Also, you have fantastic abilities!”
“Of course.”
“Then, what kind of weapon would you like? Would you please choose?”
After that… it was Beltran’s unilateral self-destruction.
He either forgot that he was the one making decisions, or deliberately chose all sorts of magically enchanted artifacts.
“This is a one-time use, but it has a defensive spell, so it’s good, Lady. This dagger has a fire attribute, so you can cast simple fire spells [dash].”
“Wow, indeed, Your Highness. How do you choose so well?”
My servant Stepan, with a face full of despair, bowed his head.
“Uranya, I’m scared of Lady Liri…”
“Why? She’s just cool! Right, Mirhe?”
“Don’t talk to me. Annoying.”
While the three guards chatted away, the Second Prince diligently selected expensive weapons in the blacksmith shop.
[The dumbest among the people I’ve seen…]The Second Prince would never know that wickedness was ignoring him.
Beltran made a face of realization when he had to calculate the enormous amount he had spent on the weapons he chose.
I smoothly expressed my gratitude to ensure that he couldn’t cancel the purchase.
“Thank you, Your Highness. I’ll use them well!”
I’ll sell them right away.
“Since the Lady is so pleased, I’m happy too.”
Without knowing what I was thinking, Beltran laughed awkwardly.
For some reason, Beltran’s face seemed more frustrated than before.
“Now, let’s have a meal [dash].”
Seeing Beltran bring up the topic of dinner, I smiled apologetically.
“Actually, Your Highness, I already had dinner.”
“Oh, really?”
“So, instead of dinner, how about watching an opera?”
This time, Beltran’s expression brightened, perhaps because it wouldn’t require a significant expense.
“Oh! Opera. Sounds good. Then let’s go to the theater.”
However, since I had no intention of leaving Beltran to be happy, I called him with a serious face.
“Your Highness.”
“Yeah?”
“There will be many people at the theater, right?”
“Indeed. I heard that the play scheduled for today is quite popular.”
“Then people will gossip about us when they see us, won’t they?”
“If those guys dare, I’ll give them a piece of my mind. Don’t worry, Lady.”
“Even though I trust you, I still don’t like the idea of causing a disturbance.”
“Then how about doing something else instead of the opera?”
“Well, I really want to see the opera. But I don’t like crowded places…”
As I hesitated for a moment, I clapped my hands and decisively shouted, “Let’s rent the entire theater!”
“Huh…?”
“Of course, those who made reservations will be furious, but who dares to complain to the Second Prince?”
“Is that so?”
“Of course. So, shall we go watch the opera?”
“Uh, sure.”
With a bewildered Beltran in tow, I headed to the theater. Beltran, who had rented the entire theater against my expectations, admired, “You think of renting the entire theater. Quite bold, Lady.”
“It’s Pherdia, you know?”
He smiled arrogantly, trying to look as arrogant as possible.
‘Is this bold enough?’
But strangely, Beltran burst into a broad smile. I have an uneasy feeling about this.
However, unexpectedly, Beltran burst into a big smile. Somehow, I have an uneasy premonition.
After watching the opera and heading outside, on the way back, Beltran secretly gestured to the opera house manager and whispered quietly.
“Keep the payment in front of me. I’ll call for the aide later…”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Unfortunately, everything was heard, but what can you do?
Now that I saw him instructing to keep the payment in front of him, it seemed like he had run out of cash. Just that was enough to make today’s time well spent.
‘Ah, it was fun.’
Truly, it was a rewarding and satisfying day.
As soon as we left the theater, Elodie, citing curfew hours, took a carriage and returned straight to the mansion. It all happened so quickly that Beltran had no chance to catch up.
‘What is it? Why am I so tired?’
Feeling an eerie fatigue, Beltran returned to the royal palace with heavy steps.
Certainly, it was a date, but the only thing memorable from Elodie was her voice.
“Okay. Buy them all!”
Only a cheerful voice saying “[dash].”
Anyway, a date is a date.
Humming a tune, Beltran entered his bedroom. However, there was already a guest waiting.
“Gasp.”
It was his mother, Salbatrice, the queen.
Salbatrice, who was elegantly sipping tea, raised her head to see her son.
“Beltran. Rumors about today’s events have even reached this mother’s ears.”
Today’s events.
Referring to the date with Elodie on Twanette Street.
“Has the rumor spread already?”
Huh. Beltran, with a satisfied smile, confidently entered the bedroom. He believed he had the qualifications to be praised for this.
His plan to seduce Elodie Ferdia and bring Ferdia’s power under his influence. It was almost like the plan was succeeding.
“I heard that you followed Lady Elodie like a puppy today, babbling all sorts of sweet nothings.”
“I didn’t babble sweet nothings. On the contrary, the Lady said I looked cool.”
Beltran strongly denied with a displeased expression. However, his son’s words were completely different from the rumors Salbatrice had heard.
Ha. Salbatrice, who sighed briefly, calmly asked.
“Tell me in detail what happened. Quickly.”
“Well, that…”
Beltran confessed everything, from the first meeting to parting with her.
As the story continued, Salbatrice’s expression became terrifyingly rigid.
Eventually, when Beltran finished all the stories, she couldn’t help but grab her throbbing head.
Astounding.
“So, you emptied your pockets, buying gifts for that woman, is that what you’re saying?”
“Yes!”
Beltran looked at Salbatrice with sparkling eyes, as if expecting praise. She couldn’t help but pinch her temples.
‘My son, a gullible fool.’
The shock of earlier, when the maids rushed to me and told me about absurd rumors, was still vivid.
‘A gullible prince!’
Laughing as if he would give away everything, buying and offering various things, he looked like a sucker.
No, not like, he simply was a sucker.
“It was a mistake for me to have expectations for you, Beltran.”
“Yes? Why are you suddenly saying that? The atmosphere was good, and we even watched the opera together…”
Salbatrice, the queen, ignored Beltran’s unjustly muttered words, lost in thought.
‘A mischief-maker from Ferdia who can only cause trouble.’
Contrary to rumors, she was not an ordinary woman. It was said that even the Crown Prince Adenmire recently broke up with her, but she shamelessly clung to Elodie Ferdia.
Thinking about that, she became someone she wanted to get her hands on even more.
However, no matter how much she was from Ferdia, she had crossed the line by dealing with the 2nd Imperial Prince.
Salbatrice made up her mind.
‘It won’t do. Before she becomes my daughter-in-law, I must crush her completely.’
She must ensure that this person who dared to approach her future husband doesn’t crawl around with bad habits.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
