“We haven’t seen each other since that brief encounter, so it’s been 3 years?”
“Are you here for a break? Or did you come to stay?”
“I’m thinking of settling down a bit this time.”
“That’s a good thought. Grandma, Grandpa will be pleased.”
The previously quiet kitchen was now filled with Ji Hoon and Si Woo’s lively conversation, and Ha Joon silently watched them.
“Ha Joon, brother, it seems like you’re not happy to see me?”
Ha Joon took a step closer at Si Woo’s seemingly disappointed tone.
“It’s been a while. I’m glad you’re here.”
“That’s all?”
“……”
Si Woo pouted at Ha Joon’s brief greeting, but no more words came from his mouth.
Si Woo quickly showed a smile as if familiar with such a reaction.
“Right. What was I expecting? You haven’t changed at all.”
It had always been that way since they were young.
No matter how much Si Woo followed him around calling him ‘brother’, Ha Joon had never shown him any affectionate expression.
Si Woo knew Ha Joon too well to expect a warm welcome, but he couldn’t help feeling a bit hurt.
“Let’s continue our greetings after eating, you must be hungry. Let’s eat first. Sit down.”
Hyun Seong spoke to Ha Joon, Ji Hoon, and Si Woo, who had been standing and greeting each other for a while.
And so, the family meal, gathered together after such a long time, began.

“So, you’ve really come to stay in Korea this time?”
“Yes. I plan to live with mom and dad now.”
“That’s great. Grandma and Grandpa will be very pleased.”
“Of course they will. They’ll be very, very pleased. Very, very, very pleased.”
There was always a sense of guilt in Hyun Seong and Hye Sun’s hearts for not having been able to raise him warmly in their arms.
Was that why?
Hyun Seong didn’t hide the feelings he’d been holding in his heart.
Hye Sun also showed Si Woo a bright smile she had never shown before.
It was a truly happy family scene.
However, as always, Ha Joon could not join their cheerful conversation, and everyone except Ha Joon was enjoying the meal with laughter.
Before they knew it, mealtime had passed, and the family gathered around the living room sofa to have dessert and tea.
Hyun Seong was the first to speak.
“So, Si Woo, you said there’s something you want to study in Korea? Have you decided what it is?”
Si Woo answered as if he had been waiting.
“First, there’s something I want to do more than studying, and I need dad’s help.”
“My help?”
“Yes. I want to work at Hyun Seong Group.”
At Si Woo’s unexpected words, everyone’s eyes on the sofa widened instantly.

The first to recover was Ji Hoon.
“You want to work? What sudden job?”
Si Woo answered Ji Hoon’s question with a grin.
“I want to put to use what I studied in the U.S. Most importantly, I want to work with Ha Joon.”
Hyun Seong, who had been listening to Si Woo’s words, turned his gaze to Ha Joon.
“Right. Si Woo has such a thought, what do you think, Ha Joon?”
In response to Hyun Seong’s question, Ha Joon answered with his usual calm expression and tone.
“The project I’m working on is in the early stages, so there won’t be any problem for Si Woo to understand and lead the work. Also, for the rest of the tasks I’m handling, if I transfer them over in a few days…”
“What are you talking about right now?”
Hyun Seong, who had been listening to Ha Joon’s words, interrupted him with a deeply furrowed brow.
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Ha Joon quickly lifted his gaze and looked at Hyun Seong.
“Yes. So, if I proceed with the handover quickly…”
“Why are you saying you’re handing over to Si Woo?”
Hyun Seong cut off Ha Joon’s words once again.
“That’s……”
Ha Joon sensed something was unusual in Hyun Seong’s expression.
A moment of silence passed in the living room, and the expressions of the others sitting on the sofa were hardening within that silence.

“I’m sorry.”
Ha Joon’s gaze dropped to the floor.
“What are you sorry for?”
Hyun Seong’s question resumed, and Ha Joon’s pupils began to tremble violently as if encountering a storm.
What was he sorry for?
In truth, Ha Joon didn’t know what he had done wrong.
He had merely felt that something was going awry through Hyun Seong’s expression and hastily apologized.
Hyun Seong was a person who had never raised his voice or shown displeasure towards Ha Joon even once.
But now it was different.
Even a chill was felt from Hyun Seong’s eyes as he looked at Ha Joon.
“What are you sorry for?”
Ha Joon couldn’t respond to Hyun Seong’s repeated questions and could only repeat the same words.
“I’m sorry.”
Watching Ha Joon, Hyun Seong suddenly stood up from his seat.

“Everyone leave. I’m tired today and need to rest.”
Hyun Seong roughly closed the door with a loud bang, his expression darkened.
At his action, Hye Seon sighed softly and followed him into the room.
A look of bewilderment was prominent on Ha Joon’s face left behind.
Then, Si Woo, who had been silently observing the situation, opened his lips that had been tightly closed and spoke.
“Brother, you’re really a fool, aren’t you?”
Ji Hoon, who was sitting next to him, chimed in on Si Woo’s words.
“I knew it, but Min Ha Joon. You’re really a fool. You deserve a scolding. Deserve.”
“Tell me what I did wrong.”
Ha Joon pleaded with a pitiful look in his eyes.
However, the response that came back was,
“Find the answer to that question yourself. It seems meaningless for me to tell you. You go ahead today. I will talk with Si Woo for a while and then leave on my own. Si Woo, let’s go upstairs.”
As Ji Hoon gestured to Si Woo, who was sitting on the sofa, Si Woo also rose from his seat.
And so, the two of them also left the living room and went upstairs.
Now, only Ha Joon was left alone in the living room.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.
Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead
