Her position by the emperor’s side, the sight of her kissing the emperor as if it were natural, left a bitter taste in her mouth. She felt envious to the point where her stomach twisted, and she felt pitiful and miserable.
‘You treated Lady Anette so affectionately.’
Why was I the only one treated this way? Was it because of her hair color, like the rumors about the emperor’s first love being as black as night?
‘No, he was the same with other women.’
If it had been just a matter of hair color, he wouldn’t have had a chance to speak to him. So the only reason to blame for the emperor’s changed attitude was Anette herself.
‘She has something special.’
Kleih thought back to the Anette he had seen a while ago. Whether it was because of the moonlight or not, Anette was exceptionally beautiful. It wasn’t just her appearance; there was something distinctly different about her compared to others. Perhaps that was what had shaken the emperor’s heart?
And if he could find out what that something was, he felt he could approach the emperor again.
When the family’s carriage came into view, Kleih wiped away his tears. He boarded the carriage, and his father, who was waiting, greeted her. Showing a light nod when his father asked about the outcome, Kleih turned the topic to another matter.
“Father, I’ve met someone I want to get closer to.”
“Someone you want to get closer to? Who are you talking about?”
“Lady Anette.”
Kleih said that with a faint smile. It was different from the cheerful laughter she usually displayed.
A subtle smile that gave off a somewhat distant feeling.
“I want to resemble her.”
It was Anette’s smile.
Only after the sign of life behind the pillar had completely disappeared did Peter’s gaze finally turn to Anette.
Every time, Anette seemed awkward when it came to kissing. It was clear that she was putting all her focus on this act, as if she didn’t want to lose in this matter.
‘Perhaps she didn’t notice the presence of an uninvited guest.’
It would be better if she didn’t notice. Just capturing the presence of the uninvited guest and this face in his eyes was enough.
The reason was unclear, but he didn’t want to share anything of this moment with others.
This, too, was a product of his twisted possessiveness.
Peter stared at Anette’s flushed face with an indifferent look, then grasped her chin and turned her head. As their breaths mingled even more deeply, it appeared that Anette found it difficult to breathe. Her fingertips on Peter’s arm tightened his clothes, but that also seemed satisfying.
The fact that kissing made her nose wrinkle in discomfort, the shallow moans that clung to him, and the contact of their bodies trembling all seemed perfectly suited to satisfy his desires.
As their lips parted, the woman’s chest rose and fell rapidly. Her trembling lips were slightly swollen. However, she never once withdrew her gaze from Peter.
As her labored breaths subsided, a light smile appeared on Anette’s face.
“It… seems to work.”
“It certainly seems so.”
Damn it, it did work. He didn’t need to say it first, but Peter could also feel that fact.
Now he had to admit it. He desperately needed this perfect doll. He couldn’t keep pushing away his longing for Rowell. It was time to acknowledge that he couldn’t hold back any longer.
With Rowell’s presence so close, it was better to cooperate than to resist. He had to use whatever was available and endure.
And in the end… he just had to erase Rowell completely.
“Anette Martinec.”
Peter, who had reached a conclusion, spoke.
“What’s your purpose?”
It was a moment that Rowell had longed for without end.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
