“I was looking for Sir Simonen Lindell, knowing he has grey eyes, but meeting a rude knight with grey eyes didn’t immediately convince me he was you.”
Of course, formal introductions come first. Simonen was slightly stunned by her remark.
He had never felt inadequate in speech, yet he couldn’t counter a single word she said.
During the silence, Annet continued.
“I just wanted an answer. His Majesty didn’t give me one when I asked.”
She smiled faintly and then questioned.
“If Lowell Hessen were alive, would His Majesty seek her out?”
Naturally, Simonen couldn’t answer.
‘At that time, I wondered why I felt that way.’
Seeing death in a living person seemed absurd. But after hearing Noah’s story, Simonen realized it was because Annet had nothing but her life to gamble.

‘Intelligent and with nothing to lose.’
Someone with nothing to lose is fearless in any situation and uncompromising in any negotiation. That alone is enough, but if they are also skilled in manipulating others…
Could there be anyone more dangerous? Reflecting on this, Simonen’s mind rang alarm bells.
Considering Noah’s words were meant to deter approaching Annet, it was a complete backfire.
‘So I came here.’
With no achievements and time seemingly wasted, even Simonen doubted his decision.
Lost in thought, the day began to fade outside.
Wondering when Annet would emerge from her fortress of books, she finally stood up.
“It’s already this late. Let’s call it a day.”
It was welcome news. Simonen quickly followed her.
However, contrary to expectations, Annet’s destination was not the usual path from the library to Cheyenne Palace.

“Lady Annet, aren’t we going back to the palace?”
“Yes, this way is a bit quicker. Haven’t you ever taken this shortcut, Sir?”
“Of course…”
I haven’t.
Why use a shortcut when there are proper corridors and halls? The concept of shortcuts was completely unfamiliar to him, and this realization was visibly shocking to him. Noticing this, Annet let out a small laugh.
“I heard you’ve been in the palace for a long time, but it seems I know the palace better than you now.”
“……This is not a laughing matter. I should be fully aware of all the palace’s geography, yet I was completely unaware of this path.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. It seems like I’m the only one who ever thought of using this shortcut.”
Simonen’s brow furrowed slightly at Annet’s words. If she was the first to think of using the shortcut, did that mean she created a new path?
How did she manage that without him noticing?

“Now you know this path, too. So, two people know it.”
This is a secret between Sir Lindell and me.
Annet said, smiling ethereally. The soft curve of her lips and her deep blue eyes framed by almond-shaped eyelids. The shadows of ornamental trees swayed with the wind, scattering the sunset through the leaves.
If death ever loved someone, surely they would have such a face.
Simonen, without realizing it, found himself at a loss for words, not understanding the sensation he felt or why he was speechless. Before he could comprehend, Annet turned to leave.
“Let’s go. Mabel must be waiting…”
At that moment, a voice drifted from beyond the wall where they stood.
“About Lady Annet. She has black hair, but is she really a noble?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
