Transparent crystals shimmered among the intricately braided strands of her hair, large diamond accessories sparkled at her neck and ears, and over her long velvet gown, delicately tailored veils and overskirts dramatically accentuated the curves of her dress.

Naturally, whenever she moved, the jeweled strands adorning her skirt shimmered visibly. To Lowell, this alone made her feel like a walking palace, yet Mabel still looked dissatisfied.

With the veil on, Lowell appeared less charming and more ethereal and elegant.

Mabel was even more delighted by this unintended effect. Most astonishingly, despite such extravagant adornment, nothing about Lowell looked excessive. Of course, to Lowell—who’d never worn anything this opulent even as Duke Martinek’s daughter—it seemed astonishingly overdone.
