“Wait. I’ll make Prince Orent just like the Duke.”
The serial hair murderer added, flashing a mischievous smile at me.
“I, I don’t have a taste for making other people’s hair disappear!”
“Oh. I thought Princess’s taste was more towards blowing up other things.”
Other things…?
I didn’t understand what he meant at first, but then it hit me.
“No, that’s not it!”
I shouted out loud, and Anselot burst into a satisfied laugh.
‘He must find it amusing to tease me.’
He had seemed quite upset just a moment ago, but now, every little nudge brought a laugh from him.
“You said you were waiting for my mind to change.”
“Waiting without effort is foolish.”
“Making Orent and Duke Hamilton bald is your way of bribing me to change my mind?”
I couldn’t help but giggle at the thought.
Then, I noticed Anselot staring blankly at me and tilted my head in confusion.
“Huh? Anselot?”
“Ah.”
He quickly came to his senses and blinked.
“Sorry, I was lost in thought.”
He swiftly changed his expression and answered as if nothing had happened.
“Well, I won’t refuse the bribe. But no matter how many bribes you give, I won’t be swayed.”
“Such pointless stubbornness.”
Anselot grumbled again when I showed my resolve not to proceed with the scenario.
“Well. I am royalty of Acestor, after all.”
“What about this?”
Anselot pulled something out of his pocket and showed it to me.
My eyes widened immediately upon recognizing it.
“That’s…!”
It was an unused beginner’s horn flute!
“Where did you find it?”
“In a secret space inside Duke Hamilton’s bedroom.”
“……!”
Anselot grinned as he added.
“Found it when I went to pour the bald potion on him.”
“……!”
I was at a loss for words, repeatedly astonished.
‘Why would Duke Hamilton have a horn flute…?’
A terrible assumption crossed my mind.
‘Could it be?’
Prince Orent and his sister Gloria were in conflict over the right to succession.
Recently, I heard that Orent’s standing improved after he impressively subdued monsters at the border, causing them not to appear again.
Gossipers even speculated that he might be named the next crown prince.
‘So, it wasn’t naturally occurring monsters that fled from Orent but…’
My face turned cold as I stared at the horn flute in Anselot’s hand.
‘He used the horn flute to summon monsters in a place where they shouldn’t naturally appear.’
He staged the subduing and then stopped the appearances, earning praise as Orent’s accomplishment.
Duke Hamilton must have inflated the rumors…
‘This… trash!’
To risk the lives of powerless citizens for power!
There were many casualties in the small villages at the border before Orent supposedly subdued the monsters.
The many beginner’s horn flutes piled up in the Dark Guild also made sense now.
He probably didn’t dare use the intermediate horn flute. Orent wouldn’t stand a chance against an intermediate monster.
Whether Orent and Duke Hamilton are related to the system administrator or not, I wasn’t sure.
But I couldn’t just sit back and watch.
I wasn’t particularly righteous, nor did I want to meddle in the power struggle for the throne between Gloria and Orent.
But if someone like Orent becomes the emperor…
‘My beloved Acestor Empire will be in ruins.’
How do I inform mother about this?
Approaching her without evidence and revealing the truth was risky.
“First, I need to inform about the existence of a horn flute that can summon monsters, and then…”
I bit my lower lip, pondering how to reveal this information, when Anselot asked me.
“How about it, isn’t this a decent bribe this time?”
“Yes!”
I eagerly grabbed Anselot’s hand holding the horn flute and nodded.
“It’s the best bribe ever, Anselot.”
He hesitated for a moment but then let out a small laugh.
“I’m glad to be of help to you, Princess.”
Anselot chuckled and handed me the horn flute.
Meanwhile, Duke Hamilton, who became bald overnight, rode in a carriage to the palace as he could no longer postpone his appointment with the Emperor.
He wore a wig that resembled his original hair as closely as possible, but since rumors had already spread, people whispered and stared at him.
Trying to ignore the stares, he stepped forward when a gust of wind blew.
Whoosh—
His wig fell to the ground.
“Ah! Your Grace!”
His servants and knights rushed to him in shock.
“What are you all gawking at!”
His face turned red with anger as he quickly picked up his wig and hastily left the scene.
Entering the audience chamber, he was greeted by Emperor Christine, who sat on a high throne. Despite being in her mid-forties, Christine still possessed striking beauty.
Originally the youngest of the late Emperor’s twelve children, she ascended to the throne due to her exceptional abilities.
After becoming the Emperor, she sent her elder brothers away from the capital and established a strong central government based on her powerful imperial authority.
Duke Hamilton was one of the few nobles considered as a potential husband for Christine in her youth.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
