A deep contempt filled Seliya’s eyes. As she was about to use her abilities, she saw several figures walking towards them from beyond the jailer’s back.

“……You really are lucky.”

Seliya mumbled, pulling up the corners of her mouth in an obvious sneer.

Distracted by Seliya, the jailer was oblivious to the approaching figures. He hastily tried to yank down her dress.

Seliya kicked the jailer with her foot and screamed at the top of her lungs.

“Help! Save me!”

“You, you! Are you mad? Shut up right now!”

The jailer hastily covered Seliya’s mouth, but it was already too late. Her screams momentarily halted everyone, and then they ran towards her.

Illuminated by the wall-mounted torches, figures in red epaulets and silver armor came into view. They were Dietrich’s personal knights.

Their eyes fell on Seliya, whose dress had nearly slid off, exposing her shoulders, and the nearly naked jailer above her.

“So this is……not what you’re thinking…”

The jailer tried to explain, but Dietrich’s personal knights were having none of it.

“We’ve just received orders to shut down the jail.”

The knights frowned, grabbed the jailer by the nape of his neck, and tossed him out of the cell. The jailer thudded against the floor, rolling disgracefully.

“Leave at once. As soon as you leave the prison, report to His Lordship immediately.”

The jailer’s face turned pale. If Dietrich were to find out, not only would he kill me, but my family as well.

The jailer fell to his knees and lay flat on the ground, begging the knights.

“I implore you on my knees. Please don’t tell His Lordship. I’ll quit my job as a jailer. I have five children who only have me…”

“Don’t worry about your family.”
Sudden low tones drew the eyes of Seliya and the knights present, as well as the jailer, all towards the source of the voice.

In an instant, the torches hanging on the wall flickered violently, and the light from the flames poured over his entire body.

“Du, du, Duke Calipso…!”

The jailer let out a scream-like sound. A dark shadow passed over Dietrich’s indifferent gaze.

Perhaps because he stood right next to the torch, his chiseled features became more prominent.

His eyes, a deeper shade than the flaming fire, appeared excessively abstinent despite their intense color.

Dietrich appeared in black formal attire rather than heavy armor. Several medals bestowed upon him by the deceased emperor adorned his chest.

Approaching without a hint, Dietrich didn’t spare a single glance for the jailer. His eyes were solely focused on Seliya, who exposed her white shoulders.

With emotionless eyes staring at Seliya, Dietrich slowly opened his lips.

“Your rabbit-like offspring will follow my father as well.”

“!”

Desperate, the jailer tried to say something in defense, but fear left him speechless.

“Take him away.”

At Dietrich’s command, the knights immediately seized the jailer.

“From now on, do not let anyone enter this place.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Nodding, the knights led the jailer out.

Only then did Dietrich’s gaze leave Seliya. He silently looked down at the hard bread and watery soup left by the jailer.

He dipped his left index finger into the soup, and Seliya kept an eye on Dietrich’s actions.

“Do you know what’s in this soup?”

It was a strange question. Seliya gave no answer. As if he hadn’t expected one, Dietrich wiped his finger with a handkerchief he had and continued.

“It’s a sedative, also known as a stimulant.”

“…….”

“In this palace, there are plenty of such drugs. You shouldn’t pick up and eat anything when you’re hungry.”

Dietrich picked up the bowl containing the hard bread and soup and stood. Then, he slowly poured its contents onto the ground before her eyes.

Seliya silently watched as the watery soup stuck wetly to the cold stone floor.

“From now on, you should only eat what I give you.”

Dietrich’s words were very strange. Seliya finally spoke at the words that sounded as if he was saving her life.

“Why? Weren’t you trying to kill me just a moment ago?”

“…….”
The change in his previously indifferent expression came after Seliya uttered the following words to catch his attention.

“Could it be, you’re doing this because I have some sort of ability?”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
