“How did you end up here…?”

Leah slowly blinked her eyes, as if doubting she’d seen a mirage. But the voice flowing from the man’s lips was unmistakably that of someone she knew all too well.

“The esteemed young lady of the illustrious House of Duke Bellarus, gracing such a disreputable place? Truly commendable behavior.”

Snapped back to her senses by his seemingly polite yet mocking tone, Leah stammered.

“I—I really had no idea this place was like this…!”

Her initial shock at encountering Akia faded quickly, and she offered an excuse to his accusatory gaze.

After all, who could have imagined that refined nobles would indulge in such debauchery behind closed doors? She felt terribly wronged.

But that feeling lasted only a moment. Seeing Akia himself appear as though he’d come to enjoy the party, Leah narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

“And what brings you here, Your Grace? Surely not to enjoy the party—knowing full well what kind of place this is?!”

She might have come here completely unaware, but Akia was different. Born a royal, there was no way he didn’t know what a masquerade ball truly entailed.

The thought alone made something surge hotly within her. Yet the Duke merely ran a hand through his hair, looking utterly exasperated by her question.

Leah’s reaction was anything but that of someone making excuses.

“Do you even realize why I’m here right now? Unbelievable.”

At the slight irritation in his voice, Leah—who had been blinking in surprise—parted her lips.
