Leah stood dazed for a long while, replaying the duke’s words in her mind. He had emphasized them again and again, as if confirming a kill.

Leah drew in a sharp breath, as though she’d just received confirmation of a truth she’d desperately tried to deny. The man had said he hadn’t slept with her due to the medicine’s side effects.

That meant the duke saw her as a woman—enough to engage in a physical relationship.
