In the quiet dawn when everyone was asleep, Leah pulled a key from the pouch Rikel had given her.

[I must succeed in the treatment. “He” will be watching over you.]

Leah’s hand instinctively tightened around the bedroom doorknob. Rikel’s voice, which had eerily echoed in her ears, still lingered in her memory.

It felt as though someone was watching her even now.

‘This isn’t the time for that.’

Shaking her head to dispel distracting thoughts, Leah focused solely on the Duke.

As she turned the doorknob, the pitch-black darkness blanketing the room engulfed Leah as well.

Thinking of the man suffering in utter darkness, without even a sliver of light, Leah let out an involuntary sigh.

Leah, stepping toward the bed, was more nervous than ever before.

She had been coming and going from this place as if it were her own home for the past few days—yet, perhaps because she felt she had arrived secretly, she found herself unexpectedly tense.

Once her eyes adjusted to the dark, a distinct bulge on the bed caught her attention.

‘He’s still unconscious, isn’t he?’

Just as expected, the pale Duke lay with his eyes closed like a corpse. Leah set down the medicines she’d brought onto the nightstand beside the bed.

Then, she scooped some fever-reducing medicine onto a spoon.
