The Count cut off Lea’s words.

“I will continue to drink Sanjoin, and I’ll eat whatever that maid gives me.”

‘What?’

Did she mishear? Lea blinked in surprise.

“So you mean, even if Jane brings in the drug, you will consume it? That would be as dangerous as poison to you!”

“I know.”

“But then, why…”

“Did you forget, Lea?”

Unlike the confused Lea, Achkia continued with a relaxed expression.

“You once gave me Alpharadia.”

Lea let out a small sigh. She finally recalled the incident where she had given the Count Alpharadia, a drug she had hardearned.

It had been less than three months, so the effect must still be there.

‘Since he consumed Alpharadia, there would be no lifethreatening poison.’

For a moment, engrossed in the affair between Jane and the butler, Lea had forgotten about the existence of Alpharadia.

That’s why the Count had been so relaxed. Finally, Lea understood his intention.

‘He’s planning to entirely oust Bayern.’

Though Alpharadia provided some level of immunity, frequent intoxication was not good for the body. Especially when the Count was already suffering from Polarium poisoning.

Normally, she should stop the Count from consuming what would otherwise be a poison, but seeing his determined look, Achkia was willing to take that poison multiple times.

What should she do? Lea pondered, then an idea flashed in her mind.

‘It just has to look like he’s poisoned, right?’

“Count, I have a good idea.”

A smile flickered at the corners of her lips.

And just then, a knock echoed in the bedroom.

(This is a time marker.)

Lea watched Jane preparing the meal on the Count’s table intently.

Jane was in charge of the Count’s breakfast, so the only time Lea could confront Achkia was during breakfast.

If she was going to do something, it had to be at breakfast. Watching her prepare the meal as usual, it didn’t seem like she was adding any medication.

‘So, she has already added it.’

Which food had the drug? The Count had started eating but was not consuming a lot. Just a little of the main dish.

‘Must be the main dish then.’

Lea’s sharp gaze landed on the potato soup placed right in front of the Count. And Jane, finishing the meal preparation, bowed.

“The preparation is complete, Count. I’ll take my leave…”
Jane was about to turn away after finishing the greeting. The count, who had been sitting quietly and watching, began to write something down.

Lea, who had been watching the count, called Jane to a stop.

“Jane.”

Hearing her name, Jane halted in her steps. After checking the content written on the note, Lea gave her a sly smile.

“The count asks that you set the table.”

“Set the table, for me?”

Jane’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Yes. Normally, he would ask me, but today he wants you to do it.”

Smiling sweetly, Lea handed the note to Jane. Written on the note was the count’s command to set the table, as Lea had said.

Jane had worked as a maid in this mansion for three years, following her employment by the butler Bayern. Not once had the count ever requested Jane to set the table.

No, he had never asked any maid to set the table. Though he knew that the young apothecary had bravely done so without fear.

The pupils of Jane’s eyes, which had been widened in surprise, slowly shrank. Jane, putting away her anxious expression, approached the table nonchalantly.

“Fine, if it’s the count’s request… I’ll do it.”

Jane’s gaze lingered on a particular dish on the table. Her eyes, which seemed to shake momentarily, soon settled.

‘So it seems that dish has been drugged.’

Holding a utensil, Jane began to set the table, starting with the closest dishes.

And left only the main course right in front of the count. It was the dish into which Jane had surely put the drug.

‘At this point, it’s certain that Jane had prepared the herbs because of the butler.’

Lea was now convinced of her prior suspicions about Jane. And just as Jane was about to take a spoonful of the soup to her mouth.

“Jane. By the way, do you know this?”

Jane looked at Lea, putting off taking a sip of her soup.

“I sell nutritional supplements, you know. They contain Sanjoin ingredients.”

A chilling smile appeared on Lea’s lips as she recited this.
