“Phew.”

Lea, having emerged from the Duke’s bedroom, heaved a deep sigh. She recalled the encounter that had just transpired, which had been nothing short of a verbal confrontation.

She had initially entered with the intention of conducting a simple examination after greeting him. However, Lea ended up being chased out of the room, along with the butler, before she could conduct the examination.

She had heard that the Duke was so ill he could barely speak. Before she was chased out of the room, the Duke had handed her a note. Lea carefully unfolded the note in her hand.

[“There’s no need for any examination, so do not bother coming again.”]

“What a prickly path.”

She could foresee the hardship that lay ahead. Lea was able to assess his condition without the need for an examination.

‘It’s more serious than I thought.’

From afar, it was unnoticeable. But up close, the spots in the Duke’s bloodshot eyes became more prominent.

‘His lower eyelids were also trembling significantly…’

Not just that, but his cracked lips, hair, and notably pale skin stood out.

It showed that he hadn’t been taking even slight walks.

The Duke looked as if he could drop dead at any moment. If he were to die while she was still his pharmacist…

‘Horrible.’

Lea bit her lip at the vivid picture in her mind.

‘Ah, this is driving me crazy.’

If the Duke, who is royalty, dies, she, being his pharmacist, would be as good as dead too.

She had started this job reluctantly, as she didn’t have the 50 silver coins for the penalty immediately.

‘I have a bad feeling.’

This ominous sensation was something she had experienced numerous times in her past life.

She might not know much else, but she was incredibly perceptive when it came to sensing danger and the smell of money. This didn’t just feel bad, it felt terrible.

‘If it comes to it, I should just run away.’

Whether they made her pay the penalty or she ran away, it would be okay. Despite feeling uncomfortable, Lea, seeing no other option, decided to head to the examination room.

However, upon arriving at the examination room, Lea’s expression darkened further.

“Is this an examination room or a storeroom?”

Lea looked around the room she was standing in. Had the absence of a doctor continued for too long?

The cold examination room was filled with layers of old dust.

“…This is even worse than I thought. Is this really the mansion where the Duke lives?”

Even the mansion of a lower noble wouldn’t be like this. The Duke’s mansion had felt eerie upon her arrival.

‘Isn’t he royalty? It feels too neglected.’

There was the expected musty smell typical of an old mansion, and there were more than a few places with untreated rust.

Lea clicked her tongue as she looked around the room, then shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

She just needed to do her job and when the opportunity arose, quietly slip away. She opened a window for ventilation and began to inspect the bookshelf.

Various medical books and herbs were strewn messily about.

“How can herbs be stored here like this?!”

It was basic knowledge to store feverreducing herbs in a cool place out of direct sunlight. They had been carelessly spread out right next to a window with direct sunlight.

“Even cleaning is going to be a task.”

Doing an examination here felt like it would spread diseases instead of treating them.

To tidy up at least a bit, Lea rolled up her sleeves and began to gather the old herbs in one place.

“This one is unusable, I guess. And this one is too old?”

She spent quite a while tidying up.

“Phew. Is this okay now?”

Lea, who was drenched in sweat, wiped it off and brushed the dust off her hands.

“I’ll just do this much today and do the rest tomorrow… Huh?”

As she was about to leave the examination room with a handful of herbs to throw away, a bundle of white flowers placed in a corner caught her eye.

“Isn’t this snowdrop? Why is it here?”

Freshly picked flowers in an ownerless room. Lea, tilting her head, shrugged her shoulders and put the flowers back in their original place.

She then remembered why she had come to the examination room and began to open the desk drawer.

“It should be somewhere here… Ah, found it.”

Having rummaged through the drawer, which was as messy as the examination room, she pulled out an old bundle of documents.
It was the medical record documenting the Count’s condition over time. However, as Lea dampened her finger with saliva and examined the document, her expression gradually hardened.

“Is this what you call a medical record?”

To put it bluntly, it was a mess.

It was questionable whether any treatment had been given at all. The paper was so clean that it would be embarrassing to call it a medical record.

Despite the urgent need for detailed documentation, the record appeared empty, like a fillintheblank question.

“These people are nothing more than petty thieves with no knife.”

It became clear in her mind how the past apothecaries had worked.

“It looks like I have a mountain of work to do…….”

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…

Trigger warning: All men in this novel are yandere style.
