‘Why is the Count behaving so oddly all of a sudden?’

Even as she mixed various herbs for the development of a remedy, Lea glanced back.

It had been an hour since she came to the annex with the Count. He just stared into space without uttering a word.

Could he be deep in thought about something? Or did she make some sort of mistake in the room earlier?

Ever since they had arrived at the annex, the Count’s words had been drastically reduced. As a result, Lea, who was unnecessarily conscious of the Count, could hardly concentrate on the development of the antidote.

‘If I make a mistake in the development of the treatment, it would be a big problem.’

Eventually, Lea shook her head as if to give up.

‘Let’s focus on making the antidote.’

Even if that man had a problem, he was not a confidant to confide in. So, Lea immersed herself in the development of the antidote once again.

A little later, Lea, who had created a plausible antidote, shook the medicine bottle. The unique yellow color extracted from the moonflower sparkled in the glass bottle.

‘Let’s try with this composition for now.’

She headed towards the shelf to find Polarrium to check the effect of the medicine.

“Huh? I’m sure it was here…….”

She had prepared five bottles of Polarrium for the experiment. But there were only four on the shelf.

‘What? Did I get confused?’

She tilted her head, wondering if she had muddled up the count in her absentmindedness. The existence of the annex was a secret space known only to the Count and herself, so no one else could have taken it.

‘Could it be, the Count?’

Lea, who had briefly suspected the Count, shook her head.

‘No, no way.’

Why would the Count take the Polarrium? He’s the one who should avoid that medicine the most right now.

It must be that she simply miscounted.

Thinking so, Lea was about to return to the desk with a bottle of Polarrium. At that moment, Lea’s elbow accidentally hit the wooden shelf.

Perhaps because the shelf was old. Despite the small shock, the medicine bottles on display wobbled dangerously.

“Ah!”

By the time she saw the tilting medicine bottles heading towards the floor, it was already too late. As Lea watched the falling medicine bottles, she closed her eyes tightly.

[Dash] Thump!

“Ack!”

Along with the sound of the strike tearing through the air, an unexpected pain came. Lea, who had fallen to the floor, rubbed her shocked buttocks.

Then she turned around to grasp the situation.

The medicine bottles that should have been on the shelf were scattered in pieces all over the place. And she saw the Count, who was nonchalantly looking down at her.

“Count, you didn’t…….”

Lea stared at his right foot, which was slightly raised in the air.

“……Did you just kick me?!”

“Yes.”

He responded as if there was no problem.

Unbelievable. A man who kicks a woman in danger!

“You’re so careless. You almost broke your head.”

As he muttered, pushing the glass shards on the floor with his foot.

Perhaps, if the Count had not pushed Lea away with his foot, she could have not only broken her head but also suffered severe injuries due to the chemicals.

As Lea pouted her lips at the man clicking his tongue as if scolding her. She didn’t expect him to fly to her rescue so heroically.

But to be kicked.

Lea felt a subtle displeasure even while being grateful to him. He tilted his head, perhaps reading her uneasy feelings.

“You’re brazen. You can’t even thank your life savior, instead, you make such a dissatisfied face.”

“Even so, you kicked me!”

“Then I should have just ignored it and let your head break.”

Tsk. No matter what she says.

However, Lea, who couldn’t complain to him, thanked him.

“Thank you.”

What can she do? She didn’t like the process, but he saved her in the end. At her words, the Count, who had nodded, prepared to leave the annex.

“Clean all this up. You don’t need to come to the annex for a while.”

“Eh?”

Lea, who had been grumbling inwardly, lifted her head at the Count’s words.

“Why all of a sudden?”

At her question, the Count, who had been silent for a moment, answered.

“There’s a reason for it.”
Lea didn’t understand the Count’s intentions until a few days after their conversation.

[This is a time separator.]

Since then, Lea had been carrying out her busy routine as usual.

Although she didn’t visit the outbuilding as per the Count’s wish, she kept researching antidotes in the pharmacy from time to time.

“Huh? Has this much time already passed?”

When she finally looked up, lunchtime had already passed by far.

She was understandably hungry.

She had evidently lost track of meal times due to her immersion in work. Thinking she needed to grab a quick snack at least, Lea left the pharmacy.

As she walked down the long corridor to the kitchen, she saw maids bustling about. The maids were headed towards the third floor, where the Count lived.

Had something happened to the Count? Lea called out to one of the passing maids, curiosity piqued.

“Has something happened to the Count?”

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
