While taking the bag, the call disconnected, but Ji An pulled out a teal box along with her phone.

“This is a music box. I bought it at Dongmyo because the shape’s unusual—I wanted to show it to you together, but I completely forgot.”

Ji An opened the lid of the music box and turned the key; the whale in the center spun around as the melody of “Clementine” floated out.

Humming along with the tune, she asked,

“You know this song, right?”

“I do.”

“I like this song because it’s about a father and his daughter. When I was little, I used to cry a lot whenever I heard it.”

Ji An took Dan Woo’s hand and slipped her fingers between his, humming the song softly.

Listening to her humming, Dan Woo gently pulled her fidgeting little hand toward him and pressed his lips to her knuckles.

“I like Dongmyo, and I also love going to Cheonggyecheon. Hearing the sound of flowing water makes me feel refreshed. Plus, there are so many people there—couples, families, friends. It’s lonely, yet not lonely at the same time. I feel something similar in my attic too.”

“Really?”

After chattering nonstop for a while, Ji An’s voice gradually slowed, her words trailing off until only steady breathing filled the air. Her eyes, which had been fighting sleep, quietly closed.

Dan Woo gazed at Ji An, who had fallen asleep leaning against the sofa.

His eyes settled softly on her fair face, where her lashes rested gently, and he noticed her lips—slightly swollen from his repeated kisses and releases.

Dan Woo scolded himself for lingering on Ji An’s lips.
