In the car heading to Lake Tower.
Danwoo tightly pressed his lips, making an effort to dispel desolate thoughts. However, eventually, he turned the steering wheel and parked the car on the roadside.
As Danwoo hit the steering wheel with force, he cursed under his breath.
It was clear that Woosuho deliberately called him to the prison to insult both him and his mother.
It would have been better not to know the truth. Boasting about revenge without knowing anything.
It was not only emotionally difficult to see his mother to the extent that it was unbearable, but it also felt like denying his entire life.
To control the overwhelming emotions, he repeatedly wiped his face against the seat.
He was not so young to be naive and childish enough to argue with his mother.
Father.
“This damn…”

Danwoo cursed, deliberately suppressing the unconscious habit of calling Chairman Woosuho father.
Why did he think of that person as a good father, unlike others? Despite always making his mother cry.
Danwoo never seriously thought about why his mother’s life was oppressed.
Yet, why did his mother give him so much love?
And why did she want to show only good things throughout her life?
Could she have resented and hated him at times?
Unaskable questions rushed relentlessly towards Danwoo.
After a while, Danwoo struggled to calm his mind and started the car, finally entering the parking lot of Lake Tower.

Jian, who returned after parting ways with Yeonwoo, sat in the darkened house.

When Danwoo’s call came in, she should have pulled herself together. However, a considerable amount of time had passed.
Then, she suddenly regained her senses at the sound of the intercom.
With a questioning expression, she checked the face reflected on the monitor of her tablet at the intercom sound.
“Danwoo.”
“I came because I missed you. Let’s be together.”
“Huh? Uh.”
Jian pressed the door open button, opened the front door, and sat down in front of it.
There was something she didn’t want to let go of if she became distant from Ha Jun. She vaguely feared those things.
Yeonwoo’s mom, Ha Jun’s twin sister, seaweed soup eaten on birthdays, and old warm memories.
Jian sighed softly, scraping the tip of her shoe on the ground with her fingers.

At that moment, a shadow fell on her forehead, and Danwoo sat down in front of her.
When she felt his presence and raised her head, Danwoo tilted his head slightly, raised his lips, and smiled.
“What are you doing here?”
“Just waiting for you. Wanted to see you as soon as possible. …Why are you here?”
“If you don’t come, then I have to.”
Danwoo spoke with an obvious tone of why she asked such an obvious question and lifted Jian up.
Entering the house, he felt something messy, unlike the last time.
In the living room, numerous boxes placed around, books stacked on the desk, and items, including increased potted plants by the window, caught the eye.
“The house seems a bit different?”
“Oh! I sometimes came after work. I’d come and do this and that, then go to the penthouse at 4 o’clock.”
“Jian.”

Danwoo’s voice mixed with a regretful sigh.
However, Jian, without any particular meaning, casually shrugged her shoulders and sat on the sofa.
Despite receiving counseling, waiting for Danwoo in the unfamiliar penthouse was challenging. Unless she did something continuously, the weight of her thoughts still leaned towards her father’s death.
Jian seemed to be making an effort to live as if she had overcome Jaeyoon’s death.
For instance, she met her sister and mother, overly focused on Danwoo’s case, and watched all the current affairs programs.
“I can’t ask you to look at only me when you’re busy all the time. So, I found it more convenient here than the penthouse. …I do translation work, and engage in hobbies.”
‘I have to tell Danwoo someday.’ She thought, but she didn’t want to say it all of a sudden.
However, after meeting Yeonwoo’s mom, Jian couldn’t pretend to be okay with her heavy emotions.
Danwoo looked around the dimly lit house, with only the pendant lighting in the kitchen, and sat on the sofa next to Jian.
He looked at Jian’s hand, which she had placed on her lap belatedly.

Until now, when lying, she hadn’t done the habit of hiding her thumb behind the other fingers like she used to.
Danwoo pulled Jian’s hand towards him and made her lean on his shoulder.
Jian, following Danwoo’s lead, leaned her head silently on his shoulder. It seemed much better than sitting alone.
Sitting side by side in the darkness, the two looked at each other as if they had made a promise. Then, they burst into a small laughter.
It was because they had read each other’s hardships thoroughly.
“What happened?”
“You had something too, right?”
Asking the same question, they nodded at each other as if they had made a promise again. They were truly an inauspicious couple.
“Tell me first today.”
Unlike the usual, where Jian would ask and I would answer, Danwoo asked first about what happened. It was obvious that after I talked about my business, Jian would tightly seal her lips.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
