Jeean silently repeated Hajun’s words from earlier.
‘Did he steal my woman?’
Then, unable to continue, she blinked her eyes.
When Jeean finally understood those words, Hajun was smiling emptily. He had blurted out the words he had kept in his heart for a lifetime, and at such a pathetic timing.
Hajun sighed deeply and stared at the elevator that remained motionless in the underground.
Stepping back a pace, Jeean, with difficulty, opened her mouth.
“What do you mean?”
“If you heard it, you’d understand. It’s not such a difficult thing to say, right?”
Hajun, wanting to insist that it was a slip of the tongue, responded with a sense of self-deprecation.
Jeean asked with a face untouched by shock,

“Is this a joke? I’ve never thought of you that way.”
“Even in words… You cut people. Stop it. Don’t contact me again. I’ll handle my own affairs.”
Hajun exhaled deeply and, gazing at the gathered law firm employees, who had stopped due to the elevator showing no sign of coming up, he opened the door leading to the emergency exit without waiting for the elevator.
As he descended the stairs, he heard Jeean’s footsteps following.
What else could she be following here?
‘Ah! President Woo’s business is still pending. Do I really have to hear those words?’
Hajun stopped when he saw the emergency exit sign indicating the 10th floor. Then, with a heart so dismal that blood vessels might burst in his neck, he asked,
“Why are you following me? The guy who always acted high and mighty only knew one woman, and that’s you. Can you at least say that?”
“It’s not like that. The article was easy to misunderstand. But then I thought you might not know that you’re related to Donwoo.”
“While knowing, you stick it on people like that?”

Jeean, who had seen Hajun’s serious face for a long time, instantly read his uneasy and unpleasant feelings.
It was the moment she was about to admit her hastiness and apologize.
Rrrrr. Rrrrr.
The phone rang, and Donwoo’s name appeared on the screen.
“Donwoo.”
Are you off work? I was too busy and couldn’t pick up. …I might be late today.
“It’s okay. I can manage alone.”
At that moment, suspicion entered Hajun’s eyes.
‘Alone? …Can she live alone? Seriously? Why does she follow people around, making them miserable?’
Hajun fixed his gaze on the cars running on the road. Everything coming into view seemed dull and meaningless.

Where are you now? You haven’t entered the house yet.
“Uh, that. Right now, Hajun…”
At that moment, Hajun snatched Jeean’s phone, pressed it to his ear, and continued talking brazenly.
“This is Yoon Hajun. …Jeean says she came to see me because of the Hasong Bio lawsuit. Is it so urgent that Jeean has to use this as a reason?”
“Yoon Hajun, are you crazy? Donwoo doesn’t know about it. I was surprised by the article and came.”
As Jeean tried to take back her phone, Hajun lightly pushed her arm away.
“Come and take me. I feel so disgusted that I might do something right away.”
Let’s depart right away.
Click.
Handing the disconnected phone to Jeean, Hajun started descending the stairs again with a cold gaze.
However, unable to endure, he twisted his insides and let slip a few more words.

“Your boyfriend is coming to pick you up. Wait and go together. …Seems like you live together. Well done.”
“I had reasons. You wouldn’t know even if I told you.”
“Reasons like that. Whatever, it’s not my concern whether you mess up with a bad guy or not.”
Frustrated by Jeean favoring Donwoo, Hajun, even more angered, added while midway on the stairs,
“Was it okay even if he was such a guy? Then why didn’t it work for me?”
“Where did I say that?”
Unable to contain the boiling emotions any longer, Hajun pulled Jeean and pressed her against the wall.
When Jeean tried to push him away with all her might, he awkwardly opened his mouth.
“‘Parasite,’ what’s so wrong about that word? It was a mistake. I apologized. But if I beg more here… Will you come back?”
A sigh mixed with Jeean’s sincerity and a deep-seated resentment flowed out.

“Is that word so casually spoken for you? Because of that word, you went to Jeju without even knowing if it was the last winter with Dad. That word is a wound that will never heal for me.”
At that moment, Hajun’s pupils were filled with resentment and hatred. To him, it was just a mistake, but to Jeean, it was an unhealable wound.
‘Every time you see me, you’ll probably think of Dad. If there’s hell, it must be right here.’
An irreversible silence settled between the two.
Hajun, drowned in uncontrollable self-loathing, retreated with a dejected look. Then, feeling uncomfortable with the building frustration, he took out a cigarette.
Even if Jeean stared intently, it didn’t matter.
What to do in a situation where it’s become unbearable to see each other.
With both feet frozen to the ground, Jeean suddenly ran down the remaining stairs like escaping through the door.
Hajun, looking at the disappearing space where Jeean had gone, sat down with a thump.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
