The business trip for the opening of the Play Round Jeju branch was scheduled for Danyu.
Upon arriving in Jeju, he immediately attended a high-level meeting and received a report on the opening schedule until past midnight.
Returning to the hotel, he considered calling Jian but refrained after checking the time. Although he was worried about not receiving any calls, he assumed she must have fallen asleep.
However, it didn’t take long for his concerns to turn into an uneasy reality.
On the second day of the business trip, after preparing to go out to fulfill the schedule, Danyu called Jian, but the call was forwarded to voicemail.
Considering it might be an earlier hour than usual, he tried calling again, but a message appeared, saying the signal was lost during the call.
Danyu’s calm demeanor, disturbed by an eerie feeling, collapsed suddenly. At the moment when the ticking clock sound was momentarily heard, Taeyun entered the room.
As Danyu inadvertently bumped into the edge of the table, Taeyun asked, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
“Jian’s phone is off. How’s the schedule for today? I need to go back to Seoul even at night. Check the flights.”
Taeyun persuaded Danyu with as calm a tone as possible, “I’ll find out about Ms. Jian. You stick to the prearranged schedule. Check and book the flight if it seems possible.”

In the afternoon of the same day, after finishing a meeting with a company scheduled to be located in Play Round Jeju, Danyu entered a temporary office.
Recognizing Danyu’s straightforward gaze inquiring about Jian’s whereabouts, Taeyun opened his mouth heavily.
“For now, Ms. Kim Jian is on family condolence leave until today, so she didn’t come to work. Originally, she should be back to work tomorrow. …We’re tracking her phone location.”
“What does that mean?”
“I contacted the Lake Tower management office, but her house is empty. Once we get the phone location, we’ll move as soon as possible. We’re securing CCTV footage around Lake Tower.”
After stating that they were tracing Jian’s movements with police cooperation, Taeyun closed his mouth.
Danyu swept away the thoughts of unease, wiping the concerned expression off his face.
He should have come to Jeju together with some excuse, even if it was a lie. This was clearly his mistake.
“Do you know Jian’s friends’ phone numbers?”
Danyu stumbled through the story he heard from Jian, mentioning the names and professions of Somin and Yujin, to which Taeyun nodded.

“I can find out.”
“Then please. I’ll make the calls myself. Also, reschedule the agenda as tightly as possible. We need to get to Seoul as soon as possible.”
“I’ve already adjusted the schedule once. It can’t be changed due to the delay in arriving in Jeju. Rescheduling is impossible.”
Taeyun maintained an unyielding attitude, as if he wouldn’t step back no matter what his superior said.
“Even if you go to Seoul now, there’s nothing you can do. Instead, I’ll find Ms. Jian for you as soon as you arrive in Seoul. You focus on your work.”
“Is that absolutely necessary?”
“Of course.”
Danwoo, who behaved as if he would immediately go to Seoul, wiped his thin face and accepted Taeyoon’s opinion.
That night.
“I’m good at not standing out and being alone.”
Danwoo couldn’t forget the words of Jian, whom he had reunited with in Jeju.

What does it mean for her to be alone?
Jian’s deficiency might not be due to loneliness caused by her mother’s favoritism. Could it be the desperate struggle she didn’t want, to avoid getting hurt?
Even though she poured all kinds of affection on the stray cat, Jian didn’t want to create a similar situation for herself.
“When was I ever alone?”
The other meaning of those words might be ‘I really don’t like being alone.’
Perhaps Jian was afraid of being alone and lived by expressing her feelings to those around her. With a bright and cheerful face, so to speak.
‘I’ll do it.’ She might have said such things frequently, trying to defend herself while smiling and revealing as little of her loneliness as possible.
She warmly welcomed me without complaining when I visited her day and night after the founding ceremony, even smiling when meeting her family-like friend, Hajun. And at the moments when comfort was needed the most, she told me to believe in her.
The selfish fool who believed those words literally and did the foolish thing of leaving her alone in Jeju was me.
Forcing her to come to Jeju was a matter I could have been more stubborn about.

Thinking of the lonely times Jian must be enduring alone, Danwoo couldn’t possibly fall asleep.
After finishing the trial regarding the defect repairs of Seonga Construction, when Hajun exited the courtroom, his phone rang.
He tucked the phone between his ear and shoulder and lifted the hem of his sleeve to check the time.
“Yoon Byeon.”
As Hajun was on the phone, he turned his head, and Eugene, dressed in a black basic suit, approached with quick steps.
Hajun lowered his phone and turned completely towards Eugene.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
