It felt like we had just left the Imperial Palace, and we were already in front of the main palace.
“Did we take a shortcut by any chance?”
“Eh? We came the same way we did this afternoon?”
Sharon answered my sudden question, glancing back at the way we had come.
“Really? But why does it feel like we arrived so quickly….”
I murmured, looking up at Rinel’s main palace bedroom where the lights were on.
The imposing palace building was overwhelming, making my already nervous heart more agitated.
The real cause of my tension was the existence waiting for me inside.
“Your Majesty the Empress, are you okay?”
Sharon asked in a worried voice.
“No, I’m not okay at all. But I have to go in. Let’s go.”
“Yes, don’t be too nervous.”
“Right, keep your mind at ease.”
“Don’t shake, deep breath, Your Majesty the Empress.”
The three maids behind me took turns encouraging me.
“But why are you guys also nervous?”
Despite my trembling voice, I turned to smile at the worried girls.
Suddenly, the expressions of the three maids all froze at once.
“Relax your faces. I’m okay now… okay, ah!”
While turning around and speaking, Sharon’s eyes widened and she said, “Your Majesty the Empress! Look ahead!”
When I turned my head to see what was going on, I received a facefull of something.
It felt like I’d hit a pillar.
The impact was so great that it wouldn’t have been strange if my nose had burst.
Was it really a pillar?
Stumbling from the impact of colliding with the pillar, I wobbled on my legs.
“Be careful!”
What?
There’s no way a pillar could say ‘be careful’ and grab my waist, right?
As I was about to fall backward, someone grabbed my waist.
Could it be?
“…Your Majesty?!”
“What are you saying is okay? The situation doesn’t seem okay at all.”
What I had just collided with wasn’t a solid pillar, but Rinel’s body.
“Thank you for catching me, Your Majesty. But why… are you outside?”
“Me? I was… out for a walk, yes, on my way back from a walk?”
Somehow his words felt like a lie, so I sneakily glanced at Rafael standing next to him.
Rafael, who caught my eye, quickly replied.
“Yes, he was on his way out for a walk.”
“?”
The two people’s words didn’t match.
Rinel said he was returning from a walk, and his secretary said he was going out for a walk.
“Well, either way, walking is good. Your Majesty, I think you can let go of my waist now.”
Conscious of the servants surrounding us, I whispered to him, who was holding my waist tightly.
Then, he glanced back at his line of servants and let go of my waist with a ‘tsk’.
“Come on, let’s go up.”
Rinel offered his hand to me.
I took his hand and we began climbing the steps of the main palace together.
“What exactly is your purpose in coming to my bedroom today… or rather, why did you come?”
He asked in a very businesslike manner.
“I came to sleep.”
I simply repeated what Rinel had said when he suddenly came to my bedroom a few days ago.
His slightly surprised expression at my response was replaced with a calm voice as he asked again.
“Just sleep?”
“…And to talk a little.”
“And after that?”
“…To take a look at Your Majesty’s bedroom.”
“And after that?”
“I have to sleep.”
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]Once we reached the bedroom floor, his pace quickened.
I had no choice but to match his pace.
“By saying you’re sleeping, do you mean something else as well? Or do you simply mean it in the literal sense?”
As Rinel left the following servants and guards far behind, he grasped the handle of the bedroom door himself and asked.
“Um……”
Before I could even delay my answer, he opened the bedroom door and said.
“Let’s go in first, and then we can talk while lying down.”
“…Yes, yes?”
Almost dragged by Rinel, I stepped into his bedroom.
The bedroom of the Emperor of the Laphion Empire.
A place where, aside from his mother, nanny, and some maids, no woman had ever entered.
Even those were before he became the Emperor, so astonishingly, I was the first woman to enter the bedroom of the main palace.
The ambiance of the bedroom was less glamorous than that of the Empress’ quarters, but instead, it was majestic.
I took a quick glance around the interior of the bedroom as I was led by the hand towards the bed.
The sound of our footsteps echoed in the spacious bedroom.
Rinel didn’t stop in the middle but walked briskly, holding my hand.
“Where are you rushing to?”
“I knew exactly where he was heading, yet I deliberately feigned ignorance and asked.
Seeing him stride silently towards the bed brought a smile to my lips.
“You’ll see when you get there.”
His serious reply made me burst into laughter.
How ridiculous, telling me I’d understand once I got there, when it was blatantly obvious he was heading for the massive bed right in front of my eyes.
The hurried steps he had been taking stopped abruptly as he finally reached the bed.
But his grip on my hand tightened.
“Rinel.”
At the sound of his name, he turned to face me.
“I intended to throw you onto this bed first.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
