As the door closed, Hae Joo slumped onto the bed.

Her legs gave out.

She felt like she had been rescued from a fiery pit.

Turning on Do Jun’s phone, Hae Joo dialed Hyun Seong’s number.

As she ran her fingers through her hair, waiting, a frantic voice came from the other side.

“[Dash] Yes, Chairman!”

“It’s me, Hyun Seong.”

“[Dash] Sister? Is it really you, Hae Joo?”

“Yes.”

“[Dash] You have no idea how worried we were.”

“I’m sorry for disappearing suddenly. I just couldn’t bear it anymore.”

“[Dash] I understand. The director was frightened too.”

Hae Joo could imagine the chaos at the company.

She might have to face the consequences when she returns.

“[Dash] Are you feeling okay?”

“Not really. It’s hard to even stand.”

“[Dash] If you feel even slightly unwell, go to the hospital, okay?”

“I will. …Hyun Seong?”

“[Dash] Yes?”

“Was the director very angry?”

“[Dash] He was shocked, but don’t worry about it. And the public opinion has softened a bit.”

“How?”

“[Dash] You might not know. Chairman Park Do Jun released a handwritten statement.”
One day felt like a year to them.

And astonishingly, that day hadn’t ended yet.

The clock had passed 9 PM.

Hae Joo and Do Jun had been worn out battling against Choi In Ho’s false articles.

“[Dash] I’ll cover things up with the director. You take care of yourself.”

“Will do. Where I am…”

“[Dash] You don’t have to tell me. Just stay somewhere unknown with him.”

“Thanks, Hyun Seong.”

After the call with Hyun Seong, Hae Joo felt much lighter.

She turned on the internet and started searching for news articles.

The internet was still in chaos. Skipping over the heart-wrenching articles and comments, Hae Joo clicked on Do Jun’s handwritten statement.

“My goodness…”

The carefully penned words in the statement were filled with sincerity.

Despite filling five pages, there was no disarray, reflecting his true nature.

The statement began with the story of Chairman Park and the late Lee Jun.

“[My father ran a small-scale finance business in an old neighborhood with a traditional market. The interest rates were second-tier, but he was known as a loan shark to the people.]”

It must not have been easy for Do Jun to expose his own shortcomings.

Yet, he willingly did so for Hae Joo.

“[Usually dealing with small-scale merchants, Hae Joo’s mother approached my father for a large sum.]”

Chairman Park was hardly the loan shark he was made out to be.

His only staff was someone who answered phones in the office.

Most loans were small, but Kyung Ae was the only one seeking a large amount.

He lent her the money, knowing it was unlikely to be repaid.

The reason was Lee Jun, his elder son.

As Lee Jun’s illness worsened, Chairman Park first heard about Hae Joo.

“‘Dad, we need to save that girl. She might die otherwise.'”

“‘How can we save someone else’s child?'”

“‘She’s so weak right now. She can’t do anything by herself.'”

“‘My, my, this boy!'”

“‘It’s my last wish before I die.'”

“‘What can I do for you?'”

Lee Jun’s plan was to marry Hae Joo.

He joked about not becoming a bachelor ghost after his death.

Chairman Park was exasperated.

Who would match their daughter with a dying son-in-law?

He casually mentioned maybe holding a spirit wedding after Lee Jun’s death.

To his surprise, Kyung Ae took the bait and actually showed up.

She asked to waive their debt in exchange for marrying Hae Joo to Lee Jun.

When Chairman Park refused, Kyung Ae insisted and then unilaterally sent Hae Joo over.

Chairman Park couldn’t understand why such a lovely child was treated so poorly by her own mother.

Additionally, Do Jun turned into a wild troublemaker, fighting with local youths.

He laughed heartily when he later understood the reason.

“‘Just like twins, both liking the same girl.'”

Lee Jun asked Do Jun to take care of Hae Joo while in the military.

Seeing Do Jun trying to distance himself from Hae Joo, Lee Jun wrote a letter to him before dying.

Do Jun also explained why he had waited for Hae Joo all this time.
Hae Joo left her home with fifty million won received from her father. Before leaving the neighborhood, she left a letter in her father’s office, which she still keeps.

“A letter?”

Hae Joo recalled the memory from three years ago.

Indeed, she had left a letter in Chairman Park’s office late one night, as Do Jun said.

Do Jun knew about it.

“[In the letter, Hae Joo wrote that she would return in three years to repay her gratitude. It seems she set three years as the time she needed to stand on her own.]”

He wanted to give Hae Joo time.

She had chosen her path, having been oppressed and unprotected since childhood.

Do Jun needed time to leap forward too, so he waited.

“[Hae Joo might say she’s indebted, but I don’t see it that way. Even now, I would give her everything without hesitation.]”

Typical of Do Jun.

Hae Joo had to swallow tears multiple times before finishing the statement.

“[I married Hae Joo in an unconventional way. Yet, I can’t deny that I, too, am a man utterly lacking in front of a woman named Hae Joo.]”

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
