Hye Won kept recalling her grandfather’s words again and again. On her way home, while washing up and drying her hair, even while choosing the aroma oil scent to place beside her bed.

Grandfather’s invitation to play baduk kept echoing in her ears, making her lose herself in thought.

It was a thought she couldn’t easily shake off, yet unlike her usual worries, it was a moment she kept wanting to revisit over and over.

At the end of these thoughts, she couldn’t help but smile. Even after getting ready and lying in bed, tossing and turning this way and that, she’d suddenly burst into laughter like someone whose lungs had unexpectedly filled with air.

As soon as he arrived home, Tae Beom finished his work in the study and returned to the bedroom, lying down beside her. Not someone who fell asleep immediately, he intended to read a few pages of a book first—but Hye Won kept giggling softly beside him.

At first, he glanced sideways at her; then he gave her a blank stare. Whenever he turned his eyes back to his book, she’d start laughing again. Finally, Tae Beom lowered his book and spoke.

“I tried my best not to interrupt, but can I join in your laughter?”

“I’m sorry. Do I seem too weird, just giggling to myself like this?”

“Instead of weird, I’d say it’s a little scary.”

Since she kept laughing like someone possessed, Tae Beom lightly tapped her shoulder to snap her back to her senses. In response, Hye Won, who had been lying on her back, turned to face him.

“I’m just really happy thinking about playing baduk with Grandfather.”

“Seriously? You should be smiling like that because of me. It’s unfair to laugh like that over playing baduk with my grandfather.”

Though his tone sounded like a scold, there wasn’t a trace of displeasure in it. Seeing Hye Won burst out laughing again, saying it didn’t matter, Tae Beom placed his book down on the nightstand.

“You really like it that much?”
