Eun Seol declined breakfast and hurried to the Queen Dowager’s Palace.

She hadn’t been able to visit lately, having been busy for several days after a trip to Woon Yeon Palace.

After hearing Court Lady Eom’s concern last night about the Queen Dowager’s health, she couldn’t just sit still.

The palace must have felt lonely without the princess—she realized she’d been too neglectful.

Upon arriving at the Queen Dowager’s Palace, Eun Seol sensed something was off.

The court ladies and maids all wore deeply troubled expressions.

“What’s happened? Why do all your faces look like that?”

“Your Majesty, since yesterday the Queen Dowager has refused all food—even this morning’s breakfast—and has just lain in bed. We’re terrified something might go wrong… I’m so sorry.”

Court Lady Choi trailed off, hesitant to finish her sentence.

If the Queen Dowager, who usually never complained despite her suffering for the sake of her subordinates, was now skipping meals and staying in bed, this was no minor matter.

Without waiting to be announced, Eun Seol brushed past Court Lady Choi and entered the inner chamber where the Queen Dowager rested.

Lying upright on pure white bedding, the Queen Dowager seemed asleep, eyes shut and unaware of Eun Seol’s approach.

Eun Seol sat beside her and gently touched the Queen Dowager’s forehead and hand.

Thankfully, there was no fever, though her breathing was labored.

“You should have insisted she eat, even if she refused. How could you just stand by and watch? At the very least, you should have informed me earlier. Has the royal physician visited?”
