Several days later, Woon left Woon Yeon Palace at dawn to meet Chief Censor Kim Hak Gyu.

He had sent word in advance, as he needed to see him before entering the palace.

After walking a short distance past Yukjo Street, he arrived in front of Kim Hak Gyu’s house, dismounted, and stood before the main gate.

It had been a long time since he last visited his Master’s residence, and he found himself unconsciously nervous.

A servant emerged from inside, greeted him as if expecting his arrival, and promptly led him to where the Chief Censor was waiting.

Kim Hak Gyu, standing in the courtyard of the guest quarters, greeted him with a calm, relaxed smile.

His imposing build alone was more than enough to appear intimidating.

His sharp eyes and meticulously groomed beard only heightened that impression.

“Master, I hope you’ve been well.”

“I had no idea His Highness still considered me his Master. I assumed you’d completely forgotten me, since you never came by. So what unexpected wind has blown you all the way here today?”

Though his tone sounded playful, a trace of disappointment lingered beneath Kim Hak Gyu’s words.

“There’s little benefit for me in meeting you often.”

“You still worry about me as much as ever. Whatever the matter, come inside first.”

Kim Hak Gyu’s office was something Woon could never quite get used to, no matter how many times he visited.

Oddly, the walls were entirely covered in paintings—not classical landscape pieces, but vibrant, colorful floral works. His taste in art, to put it plainly, was surprising.
