“Get out.”
“What? Get out here? This is the mountains!”
Jexy pointed past the door. It wasn’t just the location that was problematic—it was pouring rain, and worse, it was nighttime.
“We don’t have time to hesitate. Get down.”
Augustus grabbed Jane by the ankle and pulled. Jane slid out smoothly, and he hoisted her onto his shoulder like a sack.
Without even glancing at Jexy, he strode into the woods. Within moments, Jane’s dress was thoroughly soaked by the rain.
“In this downpour—ugh, oof—let’s just get back in the carriage, phew!”
Jexy, having no choice but to follow Augustus, grumbled incessantly as she moved.
But even that proved difficult—the torrential rain relentlessly lashed her face.
