Kim Jeongim and Kim Jeongsuk visited the hospital room side by side.

Jeongsuk’s eyes were swollen from crying for days on end. Jeongim’s expression was equally gloomy. Meeting in front of the hospital room, the two women clasped hands.

“Sister-in-law, your heart must be absolutely shattered.”

Jeongim spoke first. Jeongsuk forced a faint smile and shook her head.

“No, the real heartbreak belongs to those kids.”

Jeongsuk gestured toward the hospital room with her eyes. Shadows and sighs clouded both mothers’ faces.

Pregnancy—this was the first child for both families. There couldn’t be a more joyous occasion.

Under normal circumstances, they’d have exchanged playful teasing, joking about how there’d always be time for a baby later—why rush before marriage?

But in this dire situation, even the smallest jest felt dangerous. All the two mothers could do was earnestly pray for the baby’s and Yeoreum’s health.

“I’ve been worried Yeoreum’s fragile heart might break completely.”

“Thank you for worrying about me. But I’ll protect this baby myself.”

She casually brushed off her broken arm, saying it was nothing since the bone would heal anyway—her only focus would be the baby.

Yeoreum received obstetrics check-ups twice daily, morning and afternoon, and after being prescribed anti-miscarriage injections and vaginal suppositories, she remained strictly on bed rest.
