The heat was at its peak. Glaring air. Scorching roads. Blazing sun. The shrill chirping of cicadas.

Even the lush green trees seemed to hold their breath and droop listlessly. This year’s rainy season had barely brought any rain, and the record-breaking, murderous heatwave had been going on for days.

Yeoreum, sitting on the sofa and gazing outside, pulled down the blinds.

She hated summer. Because it was just too hot. She had finally made up her mind to tell Taeseok clearly—he needed to understand exactly what she disliked.

She turned toward Taeseok, who was busily working in the kitchen, and called out loudly,

“I hate summer.”

Taeseok, who had been making rolled omelets, burst into laughter.

“What am I supposed to do? I like it just fine—both summer and Choi Yeoreum.”

Yeoreum, holding a book, stood up from the sofa and walked with light, tapping steps. She approached the dining table so she could see Taeseok up close and sat down again.

“I’ll confess something else I dislike.”

“What’s that in your hand?”

“Oh, this is the pregnancy journal. I’ll show you this first—it’s the best one.”

Yeoreum smiled brightly as she showed him a small, diary-like book: the pregnancy journal.

Inside, she’d pasted pictures in sequence—a tiny bean, a gummy bear, a small ultrasound image of the baby—added the week number, written brief reflections, and even stuck on cute stickers. Taeseok chuckled.

“When did you even do all this? You really love cute little things, don’t you? Our daughter’s going to be adorable.”
