The sleepy summer, which almost fell asleep, finally regained consciousness and exclaimed.
“Oppa, you’ll get punished too!”
“What.”
“Hiding mom’s true identity.”
The more he thought, the more heat rose on his cheeks.
“How did you deceive me so cunningly all this time?”
Watching the enraged Summer, Taeseok said somewhat arrogantly.
“Sure. I’ll get punished.”
“!”
“Give it now. Punishment. Well, how should I give it? With my lips?”
Taeseok hugged Summer again. He brushed away her earlobe and squeezed her heart with a sticky gaze. Oops. Summer’s pupils shook.
This is not it.
He was a man with no stamina. Before Summer dried up even more, she tried to avoid the situation quickly.
“Forget the punishment, just apologize….”
“No. I want to be punished. Here.”
Taeseok’s finger pressed firmly between Summer’s lips, opening the way. His finger oddly touched the tip of her tongue.
When embarrassed in such a situation, Taeseok becomes a beast. Summer, who had accumulated experience, opened her eyes to avoid shaking. Taeseok laughed low and short.
“Cute. Losing my mind.”
Lips pressed against hers.
The day after visiting Summer’s hometown, it was Taeseok’s turn this time.
Since Taeseok had only three days of free time, Summer went to the department store as soon as she arrived in Seoul to choose a gift for his parents.
She wanted to choose each one meaningfully, considering their preferences, but due to the tight schedule, she simply chose gifts based on the clerk’s recommendations. A pretty tea set, Korean beef, and fruits. I don’t know if this is good enough. She was overwhelmed.
“That’s enough.”
Taeseok, holding the steering wheel, said leisurely.
“It’s our first meeting, and I don’t want to lose points. Should I have bought something more?”
“First meeting?”
At this point, Taeseok laughed especially loudly. Summer stared at him. It was such a comfortable reaction for someone to have in their own house. He didn’t seem to care about his own situation.
For a woman, having a new family is such a burden that she can be so calm. Today, for some reason, Taeseok seemed annoying.
Even so, since Summer trusted only her boyfriend, she kept asking questions throughout the way home. What he thought of her, what kind of daughter-in-law he wanted, what his favorite food and preferences were, and so on.
“Do you think I don’t fit well with Oppa?”
Summer felt disheartened for no reason.
“Summer, I guarantee you, no matter what imagination you have, you can only be surprised.”
Taeseok smiled brightly. It felt good to be back home after a long time.
The family home was in Yeouido.
She practiced smiling in front of the mirror in the elevator, but her mouth didn’t go up well.
She was scared that her mother-in-law might be a frightening person. She was worried about what to do if she was forced into married life like the mothers-in-law in dramas. She could handle cutting fruits, but in reality, Summer had only a few side dishes she could make.
‘I hope she doesn’t ask me to make kimchi right away.’
It was an absurd imagination, but I had heard stories about a mother-in-law who, on the first meeting, would put on rubber gloves and insist on making kimchi.
But she only knows how to eat kimchi…
“Mom, I’m here.”
Eek.
I thought he would ring the bell, but Taeseok unexpectedly opened the door lock and confidently entered. Summer, in a state of unpreparedness, was pulled in, hanging on his arm.
“You’re here?”
Dad, with an apron, came out first,
“The traffic must have been heavy.”
Then, her mother revealed herself.
Oh, but…
“Miss Summer, it’s been a while. I missed you.”
A determined and affectionate voice. Each pronunciation sounded comfortably in the ears. The intellectual and upright middle-aged woman standing in front of her was someone Summer knew well.
“How have you been?”
“Why is Professor here…?”
Summer’s pupils shook rapidly. Was the doctor who was in charge of Taeseok more friendly than she thought? Was he even close to her parents, inviting them to the house on such an important day?
“Mom, stop playing around now.”
“?
After firmly fixing the bewildered Summer beside him, Taeseok introduced formally.
“Summer, this is my mom, and this is dad. Please say hello.”
The accident stopped. So.
“Professor, you’re, you can’t be…?”
As Summer stumbled over her words, Taeseok looked embarrassed.
“I’m sorry for not telling you in advance. My personal doctor is my mom.”
“Seotaeseok! You still haven’t told her that? Unbelievable. I’m sorry, Miss Summer. You must have been surprised.”
Summer blinked her eyes. Her brain malfunctioned.
She recalled the first meeting when she cried loudly. The day when everything collapsed to the ground, and nothing else was visible except for Seotaeseok. She cried and cried, wiping away tears, and even drank a beverage.
Ah.
Even though her mom was there, she protected the hospital room as if nothing had happened. Moreover, whether her mom was there or not, Taeseok hugged Summer tightly.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
