The Savior Who Bites My Neck (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
Sinclair and Elaina returned to his villa in the late afternoon.
“…….”
Elaina slumped into her seat, her face clearly worn with exhaustion.
It was unavoidable. From the moment she stepped out of the carriage, emotions she had long suppressed surged over her like a storm.
The fury at how brazenly they denied everything.
The emptiness of hearing, after just a few threats from Sinclair, an apology she had never expected to hear.
The satisfaction of seeing them bow before her.
And the despair at finding even such insincere apologies somehow satisfying……
“Whenever your mind changes, feel free to speak.”
Sinclair, showing no sign of fatigue despite his actions, sat across from her and spoke.
“Killing is easy.”
“…….”
“But living with nothing lost is harder. Especially for people like Melvin and his mother-daughter pair. That’s why I let them live.”
“No, Your Highness is right.”
Elaina replied with an expression of understanding.
“There could be no more miserable end for them. It was the same when they tried to sell me to Duke Hank. Of course, he likely offered the highest price, but still, as a noble connected to His Majesty, he would have been eager to win favor.”
Sinclair showed a hint of surprise.
If they had known that the “penny-pincher” Elaina had calculated all of this, what expression would they have worn? He found himself curiously intrigued.
“Besides, the man who saved me and became my husband is Your Highness. You must have been even more frustrated. Isn’t it true that you are not on good terms with His Majesty?”
“You speak so boldly, without even a hint of fear.”
“If I’ve offended you, I apologize.”
Sinclair smiled at her swift apology.
“No, it’s better than whispering and watching my every move. That’s far too dull.”
Should I be pleased or embarrassed by that? Elaina wondered to herself, unsure.
“But it’s a little amusing.”
“……Hm?”
Perhaps he had been slightly displeased after all.
Perhaps he had. Though we are to be married, it is purely a contractual bond. Thus, Sinclair had no obligation to overlook Elaina’s impertinence.
“You now address me as ‘Your Highness’ every time.”
But the reply she received was entirely unexpected.
“You called my name so easily just a moment ago.”
“Oh, that was……”
Elaina’s expression, unlike before, turned flustered as she mumbled.
“……I thought I had to. Especially to deceive others.”
“…….”
“If this displeased you, I will never use that title again. Please be frank with me.”
“No, continue using it. Even when we’re alone.”
“Hm?”
“That way, no awkward incidents will arise where others hear you say ‘Your Highness’ in public. Get used to it.”
That much isn’t bad. For me, and for you. Yes, this much is fine.
A subtle emotion, hard to detect, flickered swiftly across Sinclair’s eyes as he gazed at Elaina.
“And Melvin will lose his earldom. You should know that ahead of time.”
“Then… Melissa and Layla too… will become commoners?”
“The Edenbell Empire isn’t so benevolent as to grant the status of commoner to confirmed criminals.”
Elaina’s expression subtly changed as she understood Sinclair’s meaning.
He was right. A criminal with irrefutable evidence—especially one who committed crimes against the imperial family—became a commoner, regardless of their former rank. Even if Melvin had been a duke or grand duke, the outcome would have been the same.
“Of course, you are of Asweld blood, but you signed your marriage contract before their crimes, became my wife, and are a victim of their abuse. This is not your concern.”
She had anticipated this much, so it wasn’t surprising—but her mind swirled with many thoughts.
Melvin and Melissa, driven only by boundless greed.
Layla, so like them—extravagant, vain, and treating those beneath her as livestock.
Trending
They would now become the very class they despised most, forced to live in Edenbell.
As Sinclair said, no greater hell awaited them.
“And Duke Hank is no different.”
At the sudden mention of the duke, Elaina hesitated slightly.
“Regardless, there is proof he paid for your price. The transaction was mutual. So he too will become a commoner. I did say I’d take your daughter as a concubine to see how his household would react—but that was merely jest.”
Elaina knew well that Duke Hank was one of His Majesty’s men—in other words, one of Hester Butler’s most powerful allies.
In short, Sinclair had, through this incident, eliminated not just one but the most troublesome man in his path.
Perhaps that had been his true aim all along—not to protect me.
Sinclair had once claimed he would rebel and become emperor. Removing Duke Hank, who commanded a small but significant private army, would have been strategically advantageous……
“…….”
Sinclair, unable to fathom Elaina’s thoughts, wore an expression utterly unlike his usual demeanor—slightly tinged with regret.
This should have been dealt with long ago. Far earlier.
Of all things, this one thing—I had to stop it, no matter what.
Though it took too long, winding through a long and circuitous path, at least now the weight on my heart was slightly lighter.
Of course, even thinking this way was tantamount to sinning against Elaina……
“But I’m terribly sorry… may I ask one favor?”
It was Elaina who changed the subject. Sinclair immediately returned to his usual dry expression and gestured for her to speak.
“I’d like you to move my mother’s grave.”
“Grave?”
“Yes. Melvin will be detained for now, but not forever.”
Elaina was right. Melvin and his family were most likely to become serfs under another noble house.
“He always threatened me. He’d say he’d dig up your mother’s grave and show it to you. Didn’t you want to see it?”
A bitter smile crossed Elaina’s face at the sudden wave of shame.
“So I’m worried. He must still harbor resentment toward me……”
“That’s something you’ll have to handle yourself.”
Perhaps she had asked too much after all. She hadn’t been unaware—but still……
“Now all the Asweld estates will be yours.”
“Hm?”
Elaina stared blankly at Sinclair’s sudden words.
“To be precise, all their money and lands will become imperial property. But I intended to return them to you.”
“…….”
“Tear down the Asweld mansion and build new structures there. Then you could relocate your mother’s grave there. Or move it elsewhere entirely. Melvin, obsessed as he was with power and wealth, likely left you quite a lot.”
Sinclair continued.
“Of course, had I known this would happen, he wouldn’t have hoarded money so greedily. But it is the one thing he ever did for you as a father. No finer father could exist. I’m almost moved to tears by his paternal love.”
At Sinclair’s cold, slightly mocking words, Elaina couldn’t help but burst into laughter—and continued laughing aloud for a long while.
Sinclair watched her silently for a moment. Then silence settled again between them. Embarrassed, Elaina finally opened her mouth to change the subject—but Sinclair spoke first.
“You laugh quite charmingly for a ‘penny-pincher.’”
“……Hm?”
“As long as you keep laughing like this. Just now, you didn’t look like a penny-pincher at all.”
Looking at you today, you’re not even close to a penny-pincher, are you?
Sinclair murmured softly, then reached out and placed a small bag on the table.
These were the things they had gathered together from that dusty attic.
They hardly qualified as luggage at all.
“I thought there might be something valuable in here. But it seems there’s nothing much after all.”
Instead of replying, Elaina took the bag and began carefully laying out its contents on the table—she didn’t want to miss anything.
Slowly, her lips moved.
“Nothing here will seem valuable to others. Perhaps only as junk.”
The first item she pulled from the bag was a baby’s outfit, worn to shreds—once worn by her.
“But to me… these are precious things.”
The cheap shoes her mother often wore. The medicine she took until her final day. The diary, its corners worn from years of use. A few books……

As Elaina continued pulling out items, she paused slightly.
“Why?”
“…….”
“Is there a problem?”
But Elaina said nothing. After a moment of hesitation, she reached into the bag one last time and drew out a small box.
A very small box.
“What’s that?”
Sinclair narrowed his eyes slightly as he gazed at the box.
It stood in stark contrast to the other items—untouched and unrefined.
The surface gleamed, polished smooth by countless loving touches, fingerprints clearly imprinted—clearly wiped often……
“I’m curious.”
At Sinclair’s words, Elaina hesitated briefly, then slowly opened the box with a strangely delicate expression.
As the object inside was revealed, Sinclair’s face stiffened reflexively.
“That’s……”
And in a voice far lower, utterly unlike the one moments before, he spoke.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
