The Runaway Female Lead Doesn't Run Away (13 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 1
“I’m pregnant.”
Despite dropping what amounted to a bombshell, Dahlia’s face was perfectly calm. Even her voice showed no tremor—normally, one might expect at least a hint of shakiness, yet hers was as even as if she were merely offering a casual greeting.
Dahlia placed a hand on her stomach and waited for the man’s reaction.
She could no longer hide it. The blossomed flower was beginning to wilt, and her once-long sleeves now seemed to grow shorter by the day.
Her previously flat stomach would soon start swelling outward from the lower abdomen, and once that happened, there’d be no hiding it from people’s eyes. That’s why she had to tell him herself—before it was too late.
To prevent the rumors that would soon spread wildly through the mansion and to avoid his misunderstanding.
“Pregnant?”
Just as expected. He instantly stopped moving the pen in his hand, as though he’d just received news he shouldn’t have heard. A thin wisp of smoke curled up from the cigar resting between his fingers on the opposite hand, then quickly dispersed into the air.
Seated in his office—dark and grim unlike the bright weather outside—he leaned back loosely in his chair, looking every bit like a mafia boss one might see only in films.
Certainly not the reaction of a husband hearing his wife is pregnant.
‘Hey, hey, don’t freak out.’
After all, this novel’s genre is clearly “pregnancy escape + regret romance.”
It’s not that he doesn’t love me—he just hasn’t realized it yet, that’s all!
To steady her nerves in the face of his chilling expression, Dahlia repeated to herself the plot of the novel she’d transmigrated into.
“Yes. It’s yours and mine. Our child.”
“…….”
She emphasized it was his child, hoping to prevent any possible misunderstanding.
Yet despite her efforts, his hardened expression showed no sign of softening.
His jet-black hair was neatly swept back, and his crimson eyes seemed filled with pooled blood.
His devastatingly handsome features practically screamed, “I’m your obsessive male lead.”
If this were 2D, his glare would’ve made her heart flutter helplessly no matter what—
‘Wow, damn. In real life, he’s actually terrifying.’
Now she finally understood why the original female lead had abandoned everything—money, status, everything—and fled.
The dim room, so unlike the outside world, and the heavy silence only made the man’s presence feel even more ferocious.
How long had the silence lasted?
Without offering any rebuttal or question to Dahlia’s words, he looked once at her face, then again at her still-flat lower abdomen, and murmured,
“A child.”
He gave a soft scoff.
His lips twisted upward in a silent, drawn-out smirk as he roughly crushed the cigar between his fingers. The once-straight cigar was instantly crumpled beyond recognition.
Then he rose from his seat and approached his supposedly beloved wife—the one carrying his heir.
Dahlia, watching his shadow deepen before her eyes and hearing his footsteps muffled by the carpet, swallowed hard.
‘Just stick to what I prepared.’
She’d imagined his reaction to her pregnancy confession dozens—no, hundreds of times. And she’d already decided exactly how to respond to each possible reaction.
But then—
“Congratulations.”
That response hadn’t appeared in any of her hundreds of practiced simulations.
His expression was genuinely sincere—so sincere it couldn’t possibly be mistaken for a slip of the tongue from shock.
Yet… somehow, it still felt off.
He’d already drawn close, and now gently placed a hand on her stomach.
“Our child.”
His face bore none of the usual emotions—joy, elation, happiness—associated with such news.
It was more like he was examining something strange.
Just as Dahlia tried to decipher his expression—
He broke the silence.
“Then I’ll have no choice but to kill it.”
“What? What do you mean…?”
For a moment, she thought someone had punched her hard in the head.
Kill? Whom? Me? Why on earth?
While she stammered like a malfunctioning machine—
People soon stormed into the office.
Trending
“Take the Duchess to the tower.”
Wait. Excuse me?
He’d already stepped away from her and issued the order.
“Until I command otherwise, no one is to enter, and she is never to leave.”
Lock me up? Isn’t that way too extreme?
“From this day onward, until I speak again, give her not even a drop of water or a single bite of food.”
Hold on—that’s crossing a line! No food?!
I barely managed to pull myself together and grabbed the hem of his coat.
“W-wait! Why are you locking me up? I’m carrying your child!”
Looking down at the woman clinging desperately to his clothes, Clayton murmured in an oddly tender tone,
“Yes, exactly. So why did you do it, Dahlia?”
As he spoke, his hand—previously brushing her stomach—now gently cupped her cheek.
“Now I’ll have no choice but to kill it myself.”
The warmth of his hand against her cheek felt unnervingly cold.
“Isn’t that right, my Lady?”
With those words and a faint, eerie smile, he peeled her fingers from his coat.
The old ancestors were absolutely right about one thing:
There’s always a reason why everyone around you urges you to run. When everyone insisted she flee this place, she should’ve just obeyed quietly.
‘Ah… I really should’ve just run away.’
It seemed she was truly screwed.
[This is the timeline separator]Late afternoon, as the sun began to set.
With a rustle, a woman rose from the bed and stood before the mirror.
Her silver hair shimmered like light fracturing on water, and her violet eyes gleamed like amethysts.
Radiating the melancholy fitting for a regret-romance heroine—this was Dahlia, the female lead I’d transmigrated into.
Standing before the mirror, I traced my fingers over the colorful marks imprinted on my body and murmured,
“This is confirmation of pregnancy, alright.”
Confirmation, indeed.
Last night,
In the arms of the man who showed no intention of letting me go, as he moved relentlessly against my waist, I’d suddenly realized one crucial truth:
I’d transmigrated into a novel I once read.
Specifically, a romance novel titled .
As the title suggests, the story follows a pregnant heroine fleeing from the male lead—
The classic “pregnancy escape” trope.
Yes, I’d transmigrated into a story where the heroine runs away while pregnant with the male lead’s child and spends a grueling seven years raising the child alone.
Fucking hell.
In a situation where only expletives came to mind, what made her even more despairing was this:
She’d already slept with the male lead—and after last night, she was certain she was now pregnant.
She never imagined she’d experience the legendary prowess of a 2D male lead in full 3D reality.
“Sigh…”
She let out a deep, earth-shattering sigh and turned toward the window.
Beyond the glass, bright spring light spilled in—clear signs of full spring outside.
“Let me think… When did the heroine usually run away?”
It was around late autumn, wasn’t it? When her growing belly could no longer be hidden beneath her clothes—that’s when she fled this place.
Then, in the dead of winter, she gave birth alone in a run-down house barely better than a stable.
“What, am I the Virgin Mary now?”
Leaving behind this mansion with all its comforts to give birth in such a place?!
She suppressed another string of curses and flopped back onto the bed.
For someone who’d lived as the ultimate shut-in—never scheduling more than one appointment a week, spending every day in self-imposed quarantine—this was truly a cruel trial.
My name is Na Tae Yeon.

As my name implies, I’d lived a lazy, homebound life—and it seemed I’d probably died in that very home.
I didn’t know why I’d died or why I’d transmigrated.
All that mattered now was that I was soon to be in a position where I’d have to flee this place.
“But wait… why did the heroine run away again?”
Lying blankly on the bed, staring at the ceiling, she suddenly sat up and snapped her fingers as a memory clicked.
“Right! The male lead said he’d kill me if I gave birth, didn’t he?”
It was the classic—but reliably dramatic—cliché of the pregnancy-escape trope.
The male lead, Clayton Seyear, didn’t want children.
He wished to end the Seyear bloodline with himself, unwilling to pass down the family’s hereditary curse.
That’s why he’d chosen this very body I now inhabited—
Dahlia Molden.
The eldest daughter of the fallen Molden Baron family, a woman who’d suffered abuse from her own relatives.
She was famously known throughout the empire as a “stone woman”—
And because of this fatal flaw—being unable to bear children—she’d been on the verge of being sold off as a concubine to some elderly noble… until Clayton appeared before her.
“Will you marry me? Consider it a kind of transaction.”
Dahlia had no reason to reject Clayton’s proposal—he was, after all, the empire’s most eligible bachelor.
In truth, anyone would’ve been better than becoming an old man’s concubine.
Moreover, she’d even felt grateful toward him—knowing full well she couldn’t conceive, yet he still proposed.
So Dahlia endured silently, even tolerating the constant visits of the woman she believed to be her husband’s mistress—until she accidentally overheard a certain conversation.
“What if Madam is truly pregnant?”
“It won’t be my child.”
“Then what will you do with the child… and Madam?”
“Kill them.”
With no hesitation in Clayton’s voice, she fled the mansion to protect her child.
But, as they say, one should always hear people out completely.
Just like in every pregnancy-escape novel, that conversation was, of course, a misunderstanding—and the heroine ran away without ever learning the truth.
“Wait a minute.”
As she pieced together the novel’s plot, her eyes suddenly lit up—as if she’d remembered something vital.
“Then… I just don’t run away! That’s it!”
The original male lead loves the heroine, Dahlia.
He simply hasn’t realized it yet—before she runs away.
And besides, that “mistress” he’s supposedly involved with is actually…
“I know the original plot—I won’t misunderstand anything!”
The original Dahlia, having suffered abuse since childhood, was timid and plagued by paranoid delusions that everyone hated her.
Because of this personality, she frequently caused misunderstandings—not just with the male lead but with everyone around her.
But that timid, delusional Dahlia was gone now.
Having gained this crucial insight, she slowly looked around her surroundings.
The luxurious bed she’d never seen before, and a life of abundance where all her needs were met simply by pulling a cord—
And, moreover…
“Dahlia doesn’t even participate in social events, right…?”
Due to her timid nature, she didn’t even fulfill basic duties expected of a noblewoman; even managing the mansion was left entirely to the butler.
This was literally…
A life of wealth without fame—
The exact dream she’d always longed for: the life of a rich, idle shut-in.
The realization hit her so hard she clamped both hands over her mouth to muffle an internal scream.
Then she collapsed back onto the bed and started thrashing around gleefully.
Pregnant?
Sure, kid. Why not just have you?
Run away?
What even is that? I’m absolutely NOT running!

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
