The Returned Father of My Child (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
After my mother passed away when I was eight, all financial matters were taken care of thanks to the support of Representative Hwang Min Jun. The place where Bo Mi, with nowhere else to go, stayed until she became an adult was Representative Hwang Min Jun’s family home, not far from here.
Bo Mi didn’t want to burden Min Jun any further because of her own affairs.
A relationship that was neither quite stranger nor quite family.
If anyone found out about the connection between Min Jun and Bo Mi, they might even doubt the capabilities of Narae Creative itself.
“Is this really something you can avoid just by being careful?”
“…… I’m sorry.”
Again…… again…… Min Jun clicked his tongue without even realizing it.
“I…… ah…… never mind.”
Min Jun still wore an expression of clear displeasure.
Her stubborn insistence that she could handle things alone—despite causing trouble and being unable to resolve it herself—was the spitting image of her mother, Ga Eul.
So reckless, so headstrong, and her personality—who knew how willful it could be?
She’d seemed like the type who’d never find a man willing to take her, yet without warning, she’d come back pregnant.
Even when offered to study abroad, she refused, enrolled in a domestic university’s computer science department instead, and then declared she’d move out. Before even graduating or letting anyone arrange a marriage for her, she resigned from her job and vanished without a trace.
And the first time they met again after more than a year was when a pregnant Bo Mi was rushed into the emergency room. Just recalling the emotions from that moment made his chest burn and his heart feel heavy even now.
‘Just who the hell is that guy? How dare he get her pregnant without even marrying her…… What on earth is going on?’
Despite repeated urging, Bo Mi kept her lips tightly shut and never revealed who the father was. Seeing her belly—smaller than it should be for her gestational age—and her wrist bones so thin they seemed barely there, his fury flared.
He’d scolded her for her reckless determination to raise a child, naive to how the world worked and deceived by some man—and once again, she’d run away. He pretended not to know where she’d gone, but he couldn’t help feeling resentful.
Was there anything more exhausting than raising a person?
Nothing ever went the way Min Jun wanted.
“Since you came after so long, at least stay for a meal before leaving.”
Bo Mi let out a small sigh. It had been so long since they’d met—if she refused, he’d surely feel hurt. In the silence, only Madam Kang Won chattered away, directing all her words toward Bo Mi.
It was uncomfortable.
“I’ve finished eating.”
“If you ever need money, don’t go through your aunt—just tell me directly.”
“…… I’m sorry for causing you worry.”
Apparently, her aunt had again taken money in Bo Mi’s name, even using her name to make deals. Bo Mi bit her lip firmly.
Now that the only blood relatives left were her aunt’s family, Bo Mi had no choice but to stay silent about such behavior. One shameless person in the family was more than enough.
Though Min Jun was indifferent in every other way, he never stinted on financial support.
Perhaps such generous backing was simply the Hwang family’s way.
Her mother, too, had received substantial sponsorship from the late Chairman Hwang, and her maternal grandmother’s hospital bills had also been covered by him.
Even before Hwangdo Construction was absorbed into Dowon, Bo Mi’s maternal grandfather had worked as the caretaker of the Hwang family’s villa, and Representative Hwang Min Jun and Bo Mi’s mother, Han Ga Eul, had known each other since childhood—an odd friendship between the heir of Hwangdo Construction and the caretaker’s daughter.
Since childhood, Ga Eul had followed Min Jun around, and Min Jun had always found her endearing. Meeting only during annual holidays, their bond deepened further when they went abroad together to study architecture. After finishing their studies, both worked at Hwangdo Construction and were said to have gotten along exceptionally well.
Bo Mi’s late maternal grandfather used to say repeatedly that Ga Eul’s opportunity to study abroad was thanks to the kindness of the previous chairman of Hwangdo Construction.
Ironically, Bo Mi’s grandfather, who had pledged lifelong loyalty to the Hwang family, died when a building constructed by Hwangdo Construction collapsed.
“Ga Young will likely get married soon—just show your face then.”
“Ga Young?”
Yeon Ga Young—the daughter of Madam Hwang and niece of Representative Hwang Min Jun, who had grown up alongside Bo Mi.
She should have said congratulations, should have said how happy she was for her……
But remembering what had happened in her childhood, the words wouldn’t come easily.
[This is the timeline separator]Outside the window, a breathtaking scene unfolded—pink cherry blossoms blooming like clouds against the blue sky, drifting past. As soon as she opened the window, the woman’s voice—droning on with dull stories since earlier—grew fainter, carried away by the wind.
“Senior Jae Kyung. Are you even listening to me?”
At Ga Young’s question, Jae Kyung tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
“I’m listening.”
The arranged marriage was meant to symbolize unity for Dowon Group—specifically, an alliance with Representative Hwang Min Jun’s faction.
Representative Hwang Min Jun had introduced his niece, Yeon Ga Young, as Do Jae Kyung’s prospective bride.
‘Jae Kyung, now is the time to step back. Even if Representative Hwang Min Jun becomes chairman at his current age, he won’t hold the position more than twenty years. Ever since your grandfather collapsed, everyone’s been backing Hwang Min Jun for years now.’
Jae Kyung’s mother, Sung Yeon Hee, wanted to accept this engagement—it felt like a temporary truce.
‘I’d rather bide my time quietly than lose you.’
Not long after Jae Kyung regained consciousness, his grandfather, Chairman Do Jun Seok, collapsed.
Trending
His grandmother, Lee Hae Young, who became acting chairwoman, openly supported Representative Hwang Min Jun, leaving Jae Kyung—who’d been absent nearly a year due to his accident—even less standing within the company.
Marrying Representative Hwang Min Jun’s niece would at least ensure Jae Kyung wouldn’t face life-threatening danger or be ostracized within Dowon Group.
Do Jae Kyung and Yeon Ga Young—
If a child were born between them, it would mark eternal harmony between the Do and Hwang families, a peaceful resolution.
It was, undoubtedly, the most rational choice for Dowon Group’s future growth.
“Senior Jae Kyung, I was really looking forward to meeting you again. You might not remember, but we met once before you went overseas.”
Ga Young’s cheeks flushed pink.
“I felt so proud just watching you excel in the Strategic Planning Headquarters.”
She recalled the time she’d admired him from afar. When she’d first heard about the marriage proposal, she’d been so overjoyed she couldn’t sleep.
He was so handsome. What perfume did he wear? His scent was lovely, and his voice—why did it melt people so effortlessly? To think this man would become mine!
Ga Young couldn’t take her eyes off Jae Kyung.
“We’re truly destined, aren’t we? Our childhood connection has led us to this…… We match so perfectly.”
Without waiting for Jae Kyung’s reply, Ga Young wandered off into her own daydreams.
Jae Kyung just wanted to quickly drop this woman off at her house and be done with today’s schedule.
Everything about her—her mannerisms, her speech—was vulgar and the complete opposite of his taste.
The overwhelming scent of her perfume filled the car, refusing to fade even with the windows open, giving him a headache.
As he turned into a side alley, a breeze fluttered in, carrying the delicate fragrance of flowers. Suddenly, he remembered the woman he’d met in the elevator.
She’d smelled like freshly bloomed lily of the valley.
Though he’d thought her utterly absurd, he couldn’t look away—her faint, sweet scent had cleared his mind.
Thinking of Bo Mi, he recalled the business card she’d handed him. Even on that small slip of paper—barely half the size of his palm—her lingering fragrance seemed to remain.
Perhaps that was why, in the middle of work, Jae Kyung had ended up taking out his phone to photograph the card.
It wasn’t as if it held some top-secret information……
Yet, what had possessed him? He certainly didn’t have the luxury to waste time on such matters……
Curiosity. It was nothing more than whimsical curiosity—a brief ripple in Jae Kyung’s otherwise perfectly predictable routine.
When he scanned the card with his phone camera, a cartoon character resembling an acorn appeared, flapping tiny white wings.
“Hello! I’m Han Bo Mi, CEO of Narae Creative, in charge of planning and application development.”
The character shyly greeted him, syncing perfectly with her recorded voice.
“I want to create an app that brings joy and happiness with just a small gesture. And……”
Her soft, gentle tone made her sound incredibly shy. Jae Kyung, as if suddenly finding himself with all the time in the world, became absorbed in the short video.
“If you’ve watched this all the way through, please shout ‘Narae Tory’ when you meet me—I’ll treat you to a cool iced Americano! Tap the dancing Narae Tory to go to our homepage. Thank you!”
The character Narae Tory stepped forward and waved together with Bo Mi. It was just a simple, unremarkable introduction—basic company info and a brief bio—but it remained vividly etched in Jae Kyung’s memory.
“Huh? What’s she doing here?”
Ga Young frowned, leaning forward as if she’d seen something she shouldn’t.
At the end of Ga Young’s line of sight, Jae Kyung spotted the very woman who’d occupied his thoughts until just moments ago.
Bo Mi—wearing a short bob and a peach-colored dress—stood outside Representative Hwang Min Jun’s mansion, looking troubled as she inspected a shopping bag.
“Do you know her?”
Jae Kyung feigned ignorance as he asked Ga Young.
“Of course. She’s a parasite clinging to my uncle. Since Uncle never remarried and lives alone, she’s been trying to latch on, but it didn’t work out, so she disappeared for a while……”
Delighted that Jae Kyung had finally spoken to her, Ga Young beamed with joy.
“I guess she’s run out of money.”
Jae Kyung felt irritated by her answer. What did it matter to him what kind of person Han Bo Mi was?
“I heard she’s quite a bit younger than Representative Hwang.”
“Oh, Senior Jae Kyung. With Uncle’s wealth, looks, and education, do you really think girls like her care about age? If he were on his deathbed, they’d probably flirt even harder just to get a piece of his inheritance.”
“……”
Jae Kyung stayed silent, clearly unwilling to respond.
He knew better than anyone that age didn’t matter in relationships.
His own grandmother, Shin Mi Hee—whom he hadn’t heard from since she cut contact after he and his mother moved abroad—was over twenty years younger than his grandfather. The last time she’d contacted him was six years ago. Where on earth was she hiding now?
Whether Representative Hwang Min Jun dated a woman young enough to be his daughter or got taken for money was none of Jae Kyung’s concern.
His only worry was that if the CEO of Narae Creative—who was working with Dowon Distribution—turned out to be Representative Hwang Min Jun’s lover, the fairness of the open recruitment process would be questionable. That was all.
“After causing such a huge scandal, I didn’t expect her to come crawling back to Uncle again.”

When Bo Mi had vanished for a while, life felt easier—but now that she’d reappeared in Seongbuk-dong, Ga Young was seething inside. She’d disliked Bo Mi since childhood.
“What happened?”
“She apparently got a job at ZY Company—the one famous for its apps—thanks to Uncle’s influence. But since she was just a nepo hire with no real skills, she must’ve stolen someone else’s project. Once she got caught and embarrassed herself, she quit and disappeared.”
It infuriated Ga Young that someone with no parents and nothing to her name kept receiving Uncle’s attention.
Representative Hwang Min Jun had no children of his own. His marriage after forty—arranged for political reasons—hadn’t lasted long. For many years, Ga Young’s mother, Madam Hwang, had managed the household and played the role of lady of the house for her younger brother, Min Jun.
Since Ga Young’s parents divorced when she was young, she’d always seen Min Jun as a father figure. Madam Hwang had always told her the family fortune belonged solely to her brother and Ga Young.
‘You’re seriously thinking of putting a child who isn’t even yours—or legally registered under your name—on your family registry? Min Jun, have you lost your mind? Even in death, that woman is determined to ruin our family!’
Madam Hwang had fiercely opposed Min Jun’s attempt to adopt young Bo Mi, fearing it would reduce what her own children would inherit.
“And what’s more—apparently, Uncle wasn’t enough for her, so she even tried to seduce our brother, calling him into her room at night…… Ugh, I could go on forever. She’s got no talent, just causes trouble…… Look at that shopping bag. I wonder what luxury item she’s gotten her hands on this time.”
Ga Young couldn’t stop badmouthing Bo Mi, terrified Jae Kyung might take an interest in her.
“Uncle really is a saint to put up with someone like her.”
“Yeon Ga Young.”
“Yes, Senior Jae Kyung?”
Hearing her name from his lips, Ga Young answered with a blissful expression.
“We’ve arrived. Please get out here.”
Jae Kyung was thoroughly uncomfortable sitting beside a woman who wouldn’t stop gossiping about others.
Regarding CEO Han Bo Mi, he wanted to see and verify things for himself—not rely on hearsay.
“Senior Jae Kyung, I had a great time today. When will we meet next?”
After getting out of the car, Ga Young tapped lightly on the driver’s window with her fingers, flashing a seductive smile. She tossed her heavily waved hair back, her earrings glinting as they swayed.
“Secretary Kim will contact you.”
Pretending disinterest in Ga Young’s behavior, Jae Kyung’s eyes followed Bo Mi’s retreating figure.
“I’ll be waiting!”
Ga Young waved cheerfully, convinced Jae Kyung clearly liked her too. His silence today must’ve just been shyness—after all, he’d met his destined partner.
Jae Kyung spotted Bo Mi trudging slowly down the hill along the high walls of the upscale residential area.
He slowed the car to match her pace.
The way she wobbled as she walked reminded him of Narae Tory from the business card she’d given him.
She really only created things just like herself.
He let out a soft chuckle.
He could just roll down the window, call out to her, and demand to know her relationship with Representative Hwang Min Jun and whether there’d been any foul play in the open recruitment.
But…… Jae Kyung tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his fingertips tapping lightly against it.
Bo Mi suddenly stopped, then bent down right where she stood.
Was it guilt for having followed her?
For a moment, Jae Kyung tensed, thinking she’d noticed him—but then he realized it was Bo Mi who’d be in trouble if discovered hiding her connection to Representative Hwang’s household.
At her feet sat a tuxedo cat—white fur with black markings.
Bo Mi’s lips moved quickly as if speaking to the cat, and the corners of her eyes softened gently. Her gaze, as she watched the cat rub against her white legs, was as warm as spring sunshine.
Jae Kyung stared, momentarily spellbound. The video from her business card replayed in his mind once more.
He pulled the car up beside her and rolled down the window.
“CEO Han Bo Mi.”
Her shoulders jerked, and her eyes—along with the cat’s—went wide with surprise at the unexpected encounter with Jae Kyung.

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

Ga Jin is such an interesting character. If FL had been friends with him, she might have had an even more terrible childhood because of Mrs. Hwang. But he’s exactly the type of person who could be a friend or family member.
