Bomi. Listen carefully. Huk. Woni…, Woni has died.
What kind of sound did I just hear?
Bomi’s ears went numb, and she couldn’t even speak.
It was an accident. I’m at the funeral home now. I met Woni’s real family too.
Bomi’s lower abdomen tightened painfully.
It’s a lie. It’s not true.
His face, which greeted her with a smile in the morning, was vividly etched in her mind.
Even the soft texture of his lips that touched her cheek…
It seems like you’ve been searching for a long time over there. I couldn’t tell you because I was too overwhelmed.
This is a dream.

Bomi barely held onto the wall, her legs losing strength.
The news, like a bolt from the blue, heard only half a day after he left, left her mind in a daze.
It was instant. Bomi, are you listening?
Bomi breathed out laboriously, even in that moment of fainting, she embraced her belly.
Han Bomi. Are you hearing this?
Her aunt’s voice on the other end of the phone faded away.
In the fading consciousness, the desperate truth stirred Bomi’s heart.
Her lover, husband, and the father of the child in her belly, Nakwon, had died.
“Now I can only do this for you. I’m sorry.”
Woni also seemed tense, and his voice was more strained than usual. He put a rough handmade ring on Bomi’s thin finger. Nakwon, who used to caress the delicate skin between Bomi’s fingers, looked up. The refreshing scent of the forest. It was the scent of Nakwon that Bomi liked.

When she heard the confession that a child had been conceived in her belly, Nakwon immediately proposed. Being with him made her feel strangely stable, unlike the fluttering she felt when she was alone.
Nakwon’s proposal made Bomi’s heart beat more vigorously than ever.
“I love you, Wonhee.”
“I love you, my spring.”
The man’s breath tickled Bomi’s lips.
Before coming to Nakwon Village, if asked what she had done, he would smile bitterly and keep his mouth shut. Perhaps the name Nakwon might not even be real. To promise a lifetime with a man with many secrets was such a reckless thing. Bomi had no regrets about this marriage that no one could stop.
It had been about ten years since Bomi returned to Nakwon Village. The man who lived in the old house with her mother. The feeling of all the blood flowing through the veins, being sucked into the heart through the eyes of the man called Nakwon, whose jet-black pupils were as dense as the densest eyelashes, made her forget how to breathe. Ah… the sound of the birch branches swaying in the wind rang loudly in her ears, disturbing her ears, and her heart thumped like an electric shock, making her forget even how to breathe. In that moment when she almost forgot to breathe, Han Bomi fell in love for the first time in her life.
“I’ll be a good husband to you.”
Bomi, embracing Woni’s cheek, looked up with moist eyes.
Why? With a shape that said why, Nakwon’s mouth went up. The spring breeze, which mistakenly found its way through the trembling lips, seemed to flutter gently.
The hot breath flowed through their lips, intertwining into one. Yearning for more heat, Bomi passionately embraced the man, who playfully blew wind on the tip of her lips as if tickling her.

A shiver ran through Bomi’s body as if penetrating it.
This moment, where they touched like perfectly fitting puzzle pieces, melted away any fear of the past or worry about the future. Without hesitation, Nakwon and Bomi became absorbed in each other, like spring melting into Nakwon and Nakwon soaking into spring.
“Woni, will you stay with me forever?”
This moment was so happy that it made her uneasy.
“Promise, Woni.”
Her voice trembled with anxiety.
“Sorry.”
The man’s voice was cold, as if saying, “When did you expect this?” Even the man’s body, which had filled Bomi’s embrace, felt chilly.
“I can’t do that.”
Don’t say that. You promised to be together and be happy for a lifetime. Bomi grabbed the man’s thick arms and lifted her head. Between Bomi’s palm, he slipped away like a ghost.
“Ah… no.”
Nakwon, who had gone far away unnoticed, became blurry. Bomi tried to reach Nakwon, but her fingertips couldn’t touch him. The spot where he had been was now empty.
“Don’t go… Please don’t leave me.”
Bomi’s eyes welled up with tears. Do you again leave me…
Do you like that place without me so much? I am insecure without you. Just like under my feet right now.
Thud. With a loud noise, Bomi’s feet collapsed.
Zzing.
Zzing.
Repeated vibrating sounds woke Bomi up from the dream. It wasn’t easy to lift her swollen eyelids with tears. She pressed the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand. The floral pattern on the ceiling of the small two-pyeong gosiwon where she was temporarily staying became clearer.
It was that dream again.

The dream of Nakwon, who disappeared from this world along with the news of the accident five years ago.
She wiped away the tear drops still on her eyelashes.
Thinking it would be forgotten over time, Bomi still missed the man who had died.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
