The sun had already set, and darkness enveloped the world.
Havisa and Belia, engrossed in lively conversation without realizing the passage of time, suddenly found themselves in the midst of the night.
If Asid hadn’t urgently called for Belia with a worried tone, they might not have noticed that the night had fallen.
Belia hurriedly headed towards the palace.
The meeting couldn’t possibly still be ongoing, could it?
Khalid would be surprised to find her absent from the palace.
Anxiously biting her lip, as Belia crossed the threshold of the prince’s palace.
“Belia.”
Somehow, a low and cold voice, laden with anger, echoed from behind.
Turning her head slowly, Khalid, leaning against the wall, was silently looking at Belia and Asid.
“Khalid…”
Surprised, Belia murmured his name with a delicate expression.
Khalid gradually approached from the shadows to near Belia.
“Where were you at this late hour?”
He had a smiling face, but the energy swirling around him felt unusual.
Asid awkwardly chuckled and offered an explanation to Khalid.
“Your Highness, the Visionary…”
“Enough. I didn’t ask you.”
However, Khalid coldly interrupted Asid’s words and turned his gaze to Belia.
‘Seems like he’s quite angry…’
He was too busy, and he had planned to talk about everything after everything was over.
Just as Belia was about to speak, her lips anxiously bitten, Khalid’s stern voice reached her.
“If you had plans to go out, you should have told me in advance, Belia.”
It sounded like a gentle inquiry, but the tone felt subtly chilly. It made her feel hurt for no apparent reason.
Everything was moving for him.
In the midst of the welling up heartache, just as Belia was about to say something.
Khalid sighed and approached her, gently holding her shoulders.
“…I’m not angry. I was worried because you weren’t in your place at this late hour.”
He patted Belia’s back as a soothing gesture.
‘My mistake.’
The expression on Khalid’s face, invisible to Belia, seemed to blur like a mishap.
This was clearly her mistake.
She had sworn not to show such emotions.
It seemed like she had accidentally touched something she shouldn’t have.
“I’m sorry.”
Khalid apologized as he hugged Belia even more tightly.
He must have been quite surprised when he returned from the meeting and found Belia missing.
Only after wandering around frantically like a madman and finally realizing that Belia had disappeared with Asid, Khalid could finally catch his breath.
“No, I’m sorry.”
Khalid softly muttered as he handed the apologetic Belia.
As if to say, now that Belia had returned, everything was alright.
When he entered the room, Khalid gently seated Belia on the sofa and calmly arranged her hair.
His touch was incredibly gentle.
“Can you tell me where you went?”
He asked cautiously.
It was a tone that showed he had been careful not to surprise Belia.
“I went to the mausoleum.”
“The mausoleum?”
The mausoleum, all of a sudden. What could be the reason for visiting the mausoleum? Moreover, without informing Khalid in advance.
After a moment of deep thought, Khalid, who had been lost in thought, seemed to recall something.
“…Is it related to the mana stone I mentioned before?”
The mana stone obtained from subduing demons.
After Belia came to the empire, Khalid had given it to her.
“Yes.”
Belia took out the Guardian Bracelet from her bosom.
A black mana stone embedded in a flat, silver ring.
Even at a glance, one could see how precious it was.
“It will protect you.”
“Belia…”
“Take it with you.”
However, Khalid shook his head and handed the bracelet that Belia offered back to her.
“You keep it. I worry more about you staying alone in the palace than I worry about myself.”
It was an affectionate gesture, but Belia’s eyebrows wrinkled slightly.
It was obviously Khalid who was jumping into the trap now!
Belia, with a rough motion, took off the bracelet from her wrist and put it back on Khalid’s arm.
“Don’t talk nonsense and take it with you!”
She also had a necklace her grandfather, the substitute for the Divine Court of the Sacred Kingdom, personally imbued with divine power.
Moreover, there was a barrier created by her grandfather and mother at the Second Prince’s Palace.
It meant she had the ability to take refuge in the Crown Prince’s Palace in case of a similar situation.
And if the Emperor and Raul had any thoughts, they wouldn’t be able to do anything to her in the palace.
There was no benefit in messing with the current Belia. It would lead to hostility between the Kingdom of Ronica and the Sacred Kingdom, and the people of the Empire would turn their backs on her.
So, if they were plotting a trap…
‘…Khalid is the target.’
Khalid, leaving for this negotiation, was blatantly exposed to danger. Therefore, the Guardian Bracelet would be necessary.
“I haven’t used this even in my previous life. So, I can’t be sure about the size of the protective shield and how effective it will be.”
Belia’s voice trembled.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
