While people surrounded her, if someone asked her whether she could call them ‘friends,’ she could instantly shake her head.

Being a princess, she did appear in social circles, but it felt more like fulfilling a role rather than socializing or enjoying herself.

When she looked around one day, she realized she didn’t have a single friend.

Maids couldn’t be friends.

Neither Cloezena nor Herald were friends.

‘It’s the first time…’

Someone had proposed friendship to her.

For some reason, she felt exhilarated.

“Why are you smiling?”

Prince Khaled, who entered through the door connected to her room, asked Velia.

Just earlier, she had so coldly moved away from him, but now her expression was gradually softening.

“Something good happened?”

Khaled approached Velia, who was lying on the bed, and gently stroked her hair.

“Looks happy for someone who just abandoned me.”

Though his touch was tender, his words were far from it.

Velia rolled her eyes and pushed Khaled’s hand away.

“See, you’re particularly cruel to me.”

“Forgot my room was offlimits today?”

Velia glared at Khaled with triangular eyes.

But her opponent was Khaled.

“A day has passed, right?”

“How could a day pass—”

Had midnight already passed?

As Velia blinked and looked at him, she caught sight of a satisfied grin.

“Right?”

Annoying.

Incredibly so.

“So what made you smile?”

Velia did not answer.

Khaled exaggeratedly jumped next to Velia.

The bed bounced substantially as a result.

“Ah!”

Caught by surprise, Velia let out a cry.

Not missing this chance, Khaled pulled Velia into his arms.

“Let me go.”

“No.”

He tightened his grip, ensuring Velia couldn’t escape.
Velia struggled momentarily, but soon gave up and relaxed her body. There was no point in fighting, not with force.

“Hey, Prince Khaled.”

“Hmm?”

Velia nestled quietly into his arms before speaking.

“…I think I’ve made a friend.”

It was just a mention of making a friend, yet for some reason, the words felt awkward and slightly embarrassing as they left her mouth.

Prince Khaled looked down at her, puzzled.

But Velia buried her face deeper into his chest, hiding her expression.

“…Hehe.”

At the sound of her childlike laugh, Prince Khaled widened his eyes and looked at Velia, who was nestled against him. It was a laugh he had never heard before.

“Is it that pleasing?”

“Yes.”

Velia fidgeted, embarrassed.

Then she whispered in a very soft voice.

“It was the first time someone has asked to be my friend.”

When Velia first set foot in the Empire, people were warm and welcoming, but it was never an equal relationship.

Perhaps Rachel had some ulterior motives for wanting to be friends with her, too.

However, she felt sincerity in that one word Rachel had given her. It wasn’t for some gain, but rather from one person to another, equally offering their heart.

Velia hoped her feeling was not mistaken.

“I was really, really happy.”

Velia’s voice was moist.

It was her first friend.

In her past life, and in her present one.

“I want to get along with them.”

Prince Khaled, seemingly very curious, adjusted his posture and brushed Velia’s hair away from her face before asking,

“Do you like them?”

“…They seem like good people.”

Though Velia was sure she liked them, she was still not fully convinced. Prince Khaled gently kissed her forehead and said,

“If you think so, it must be so.”

That gesture somehow made her feel that everything would be alright.

Velia whispered quietly,

“Do you think we could have been friends in a past life?”

If she hadn’t just followed Raul, if she hadn’t put up walls around herself. Would things have been different?

The Velia in her past life had been blindly stubborn. She hadn’t even realized that it distanced her from others.

“Maybe. But what’s certain is, the you now is charming enough to want anyone by her side.”

“…Stop it. You’re inflating my ego and there’s nothing there.”

“I’m serious. So stop doubting yourself and enjoy your new life to the fullest.”

The only thing that had changed in her behavior was that she chose Prince Khaled over Raul, yet her circumstances had changed incomparably since then.

“Thank you. Somehow, it all feels like it’s because of you.”

At Velia’s expression of gratitude, Prince Khaled playfully squinted and then furrowed his eyebrows.

“Um, you should be more confident.”

His voice was buoyant.

“It’s only natural for someone as wonderful as you to be seen that way by others. You are a truly remarkable person.”

Listening to Prince Khaled’s words, she felt as if she herself had become someone great.

Velia quietly savored his words, then with a rush of emotion, closed her eyes and embraced him tightly.

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
