The Problematic Helper (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
Outside the luxury sedan,
Leaving Woo Seok outside, the two people inside the car slowly read through the documents placed in front of them.
To be precise, not the man who was Party A in the contract, but only the woman who was Party B.
“Then we’ll live together?”
“It’s hard to consider people who live separately as a married couple, isn’t it?”
“What about the bedroom? You’re not saying we’ll share that too, right?”
“If you want, we can do that.”
“You can just keep living exactly as you have been, Director, but what about me? Don’t tell me I have to quit school or something.”
“I can’t ruin a future that hasn’t even started yet just for a marriage that will last six months at the shortest and a year at the longest. You’ll continue attending school as planned, and you’ll quit your part-time jobs. I’ll take your school schedule into consideration for important events, but anything beyond that would be too much for me as well.”
Do Um nodded.
“The marriage will be kept private, and there won’t be any exposure to the outside world. Even if there is, it will mostly be people you’ll never have to see again, and it won’t be plastered across the front page of newspapers—unless some paper is desperate to shut down over a single outburst of bravado.”
The more she listened to Ji Wan, the more Do Um realized this wasn’t just a simple contract marriage.
The thought of marrying someone who could close down a newspaper just for publishing one photo of her suddenly started to feel terrifying.
“Anything else.”
“Yes?”
“I’m asking if there’s anything else you want to ask.”
“You probably already looked into it, but my mother is currently out of contact. It would be best if she never comes looking for me during the entire marriage, but if she somehow finds out and shows up…”
“Asking me to handle even that would be an excessive greed, wouldn’t it? Just as I bear some responsibility for your future, I’d like you to think a little about mine as well. One bomb is more than enough for me.”
A bomb, he says.
The man drove the final nail into the coffin for the woman who was already thoroughly in the weaker position.
“You’re like a time bomb to me. I never know when you might explode and the sparks might reach me too. You must have looked into me, so you know—this moment, this marriage with you, is the most imperfect point in my life right now.”
Do Um, suddenly reduced to a bomb in an instant, reluctantly nodded.
He wasn’t wrong.
Even if she was a time bomb to him, she couldn’t deny that he was a once-in-a-lifetime lottery ticket for her.
“Anything else.”
“?”
This time the woman asked.
“Is there anything else I need to be careful about?”
Her attitude was considerably more compliant than before.
“The items explicitly stated at the very bottom of the contract.”
1. Party A and Party B shall not interfere in any way with each other’s private lives.
2. Public displays of affection are implicitly agreed upon in principle without separate permission.
3. In the case of consensual relations between adult men and women, they may proceed, but neither party shall hold the other responsible.
4. The termination of the contract—i.e., divorce—shall be solely at the discretion of Party A.
“Clause 3 is a waste of paper. As if anyone would have a consensual relationship with a time bomb that’s scary just to have nearby.”
“Just think of it as one of the standard clauses. There must not be even the slightest loophole.”
Everything that followed afterward was obviously not worth reading.
The intentions of Party A, who “wanted to leave not even the slightest opening,” were abundantly clear.
After signing and stamping her seal, Do Um stepped out of the sedan.
She had only given her fingerprint, yet her face looked as though she had lost everything.
“Do Um!!”
Two men who had apparently been waiting for who knows how long came running from a distance.
They were Jae Han, Min Seung, and Eun Hyuk—her classmates from the same university entrance year.
These seniors in their fourth year, unlike Do Um who spent all her time outside of sleep struggling with part-time jobs, had grown up relatively well-off in ordinary families.
To the girl who took on their assignments for a few bucks each, they were VIP clients.
Among them, Eun Hyuk—whose grandfather, father, and older brother had all been career army officers—looked Do Um up and down.
“Hey, you’re not hurt anywhere, right? Who were those people?”
Eun Hyuk, known as the handsome business major with natural good looks and a straightforward personality, was uncharacteristically making a fuss.
“I’m fine, hurt where?”
“We thought you were being kidnapped. What were you doing in that car?”
Trending
Jae Han narrowed his eyes and peered into the car.
“Ugh, can’t see a thing. You didn’t do anything you shouldn’t just because they offered you money, right?”
“Wow, it’s my first time seeing that car in real life. Not on a screen or in print—actually seeing it with my own eyes. They say only two came into the country. Damn, insane.”
While worry and admiration flew back and forth with Do Um standing in the middle, Ji Wan watched them from the back seat of the sedan with an expressionless gaze.
“Director, shall I look into those three people?”
Woo Seok, sitting in the driver’s seat and looking out the window, had an unusual glint in his eyes.
“No need for them. Look into where Kang Do Um’s mother is instead.”
It had barely been ten minutes since he had snapped that he wouldn’t add another bomb on top of the woman.
“Yes, sir.”
The black sedan sped out of the campus filled with greenery.

To match the end of the first-semester classes, Woo Seok picked up Do Um from the main humanities building.
“Is that really all your luggage?”
She was told to pack things to move into the newlywed house, yet all she had was one black carry-on suitcase.
“Anything I bring myself would obviously not be to your taste, Director.”
Woo Seok looked at the woman—who had already figured out Ji Wan long ago—with faint admiration.
It had taken him a full six months, after all.
“We’ll prepare anything you need little by little. About the marriage news to your friends…”
“No, I didn’t tell them. They’re not the type I can trust anyway, and even if they were, I didn’t particularly want to.”
Once the vacation that lasted at most two months was over and the remaining half-semester passed, graduation would come soon.
She figured it would be fine to just let them remain unaware until then.
“Are we going to the newlywed house?”
“No, first we have to prepare for tomorrow’s greeting at the family home in Anseo-dong.”
With exactly fifteen days left of the original three-month deadline, Ji Wan had informed Mrs. Jang about the marriage.
The moment he heard the order to bring the woman, Ji Wan had Director Han adjust Do Um’s schedule.
It happened to be the end of the semester right before vacation, and clearing out the house scheduled for demolition went smoothly as well.
Even before setting a wedding date, because the demolition site had to be vacated, Ji Wan—purely out of consideration—allowed Do Um, who suddenly had nowhere to go, to move into the newlywed house first.
“Get out here.”
The entrance was blinding from the excessively gorgeous chandelier lighting—it was a premium multi-shop in the city center.
Overwhelmed by the elegant atmosphere from the high ceiling to the floor visible through the huge windows, Do Um couldn’t close her gaping mouth.
“The Director hasn’t arrived yet.”
The employees lined up on both sides bowed deeply as Do Um entered alongside Director Han.
“You don’t have much time, so please try on the outfits that were prepared in advance.”
Since the man had skipped even dinner because of a meeting that had been going on for three hours already, the person who contacted the shop was probably Team Leader Yoon from the director’s office.
“Please come in, Madam.”
Ma-dam.
The three syllables hammered into her ears like nails, shaking Do Um’s mind with their vibration.
It was when she tried on the pre-selected A-line dress, the black blouse with a silk collar as wide as a brim, and the deep V-neck dark grey dress in the fitting room she was led to.
“Come out.”
While she was changing in and out of clothes, the staff member who had only been checking size and fit suddenly flung open the dressing room curtain.
Beyond the curtain, under bright yellow pin lighting.
The man leaning back on a single couch with his eyes closed was Ji Wan.
He must have just arrived after being told he would be late.
His face bathed in the yellow light looked exhausted at a glance.
Even the sight of his tie loosened and the bottom few buttons of his shirt undone screamed exhaustion.
Both Woo Seok standing behind and Do Um herself froze, unable to make a sound while the man rested.
“Ahem, ahem.”
At Woo Seok’s deliberate cough, the man slowly opened his eyes.
Beneath slowly raised eyelids, deep dark-brown eyes scanned the woman standing opposite.
His emotionless gaze didn’t even bother to examine her closely.

He simply glanced exactly where he needed to, nodded once—that was all.
One nod meant okay; closing his eyes and leaning back against the sofa meant pass.
That casual glance felt scorching hot, and Do Um’s face burned as if she had been stripped bare in front of him.
After twenty rounds of trying on and taking off clothes, Do Um climbed back into the sedan.
As they passed dazzling lights and busy roads into a luxury residential area, the surroundings visibly changed.
Even a single flower blooming in the mother-in-law’s garden was far from ordinary—this was that kind of neighborhood.
“Get out here.”
The houses visible on both sides while climbing the asphalt hill were luxurious.
The car climbed to the very top, passed through the central gate, went a bit further uphill, and stopped.
“Wow! It’s beautiful.”
The first thing she saw was a garden green in all directions.
Thanks to the bright lights illuminating the garden, she almost forgot it was late at night.
“Please go inside.”
At Director Han’s guidance, only Do Um moved while Ji Wan stood still like a statue waiting for her husband.
“Aren’t you coming in?”
“I’m going to my own house.”
My own house.
Ji Wan said exactly that.
Bandi Claudien.
The premium officetel that Bando Construction had ambitiously built in the very heart of the city was the man’s residence.
Woo Seok stared at the shameless man who was sending the woman alone into this huge newlywed house while declaring he would sleep at his own place.
“Director, still, today is the first day moving into the newlywed house, and Miss Do Um is still unfamiliar with the place and…”
“It’s fine. You can go.”
Though she had every reason to feel hurt, Do Um waved her hand, saying it was okay and declining.
“I’m really fine. I’m a full-grown adult—what’s there to be scared of? I’m not afraid of anything.”
Unlike the stunned expression on Woo Seok’s face, Ji Wan had already climbed into the back seat, leaned against the headrest, and closed his eyes.
“I’ll come pick you up by 8 o’clock tomorrow.”
Do Um nodded at Director Han as he hurriedly closed the back door and got into the car.
Do Um stood in that spot until the black sedan had completely disappeared down the hill of the luxury residential area.

Bandi Claudien, Royal 27th floor officetel.
After finishing his shower, shirtless Ji Wan stood at the window holding a crystal glass filled with dark brown liquid.
Before his eyes spread a dazzling city night view, yet for some reason the image in his mind was of the woman standing under the bright yellow lights.
He had thought her jeans-and-T-shirt look wasn’t bad at all.
He had even thought that her height of around 163 cm, combined with excellent proportions, made her appear taller—but the woman he saw today had, contrary to her plain face, an extremely sensual figure from chest to hips.
The moment he saw the woman shyly peeking out from behind the drawn curtain.
He had to admit that the fatigue piled up from the long meeting had eased just a tiny bit.
That in that brief instant, his eyes had unexpectedly enjoyed a little luxury.
Her face without even a trace of makeup, not even powder, and her innocently unpretentious gestures and movements had constantly drawn his gaze.
From the very beginning, the way she never tried to please him, and even while with him kept standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Director Han.
It strangely got on his nerves, and seeing a woman who still hadn’t finished shedding her baby fat—like a half-grown pup with fluffy down—being dazzled by wealth made him wonder if this was really okay, and the feeling wasn’t pleasant.
Even if a foolish old man bought youth with money, would it be any more ugly than this? It felt like a tiny prick of conscience.
For some reason, the dark brown liquid sliding down his throat tasted even more bitter than usual tonight.
When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman
