Without a single word of refusal, Ji Wan simply sat there, and both Chairwoman Jang and Do Um’s gazes turned toward him.

“To the whole world, I’m declaring that this person is mine. If I don’t make it public, who knows where you’ll run off to again—you’re the type who can’t stay still for even a moment. Haven’t you heard? They say he’s the kind of person who would camp out in front of the pond every year just to see a toy he couldn’t even go in and retrieve.”

Do Um burst out laughing, unable to hold it in any longer.

“You… you knew all along?”

“I waited anxiously for him to stride right in and fetch it with his own hands. What do you think was the reason I never covered that hideous pond? That fellow is truly an expert at making this old woman wait.”

It must have been the old woman’s desperate affection for a grandson who never revealed his heart.

Her jade-green skirt rustled softly as it brushed against the grass.

The handkerchief she had been holding delicately all this time was unfolded, and from within it she pulled out a single sheet of paper and handed it to Do Um.

The wrinkled hand trembled slightly.

On pure white hanji paper, elegant calligraphy written neatly with freshly ground ink.
