The Princess Wants to Live (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
“Send a messenger to the Empire.”
The Crown Prince repeated Greta’s words like a puppet, his eyes clear.
Who could dare claim the Crown Prince was strange, seeing those eerily transparent eyes?
Strangely, he hadn’t blinked even once, yet no one present had noticed…
Soon, Greta’s words flowed from the Crown Prince’s lips.
“There is someone who can track down the culprit behind the incident occurring outside the capital.”
An unexpected incident outside the Imperial capital, spoken of by an unexpected person in an unexpected place.
Before Olivia and Cryer could follow the trail of clues.
Greta, far away in the Norden Royal Palace from where the incident occurred, had already sensed what was happening.
A faint presence she’d felt even before she stabbed her own father, the Mage, to death not long ago.
Her father hadn’t noticed it, but Greta—a far superior mage—had.
She knew this presence was growing stronger.
And if it was something she could sense, it must surely be connected to the Ancient God.
Her green eyes glowed with a light like that of a serpent’s.
After licking her lips once, Greta whispered, and the Crown Prince repeated her words exactly.
“I will help to catch the culprit as swiftly as possible.”
When Greta closed her mouth, the Crown Prince did too; when she turned to leave, the Crown Prince walked beside her.
Soon, back in the King’s study, Greta patted the Crown Prince’s cheek lightly and whispered,
“Good job.”
Only then did the Crown Prince close his eyes, and Greta gently kissed his forehead.
For just an instant, the symbol of the Ancient God flickered upon his brow where her lips had been.
Seeing the Crown Prince slumped like a lifeless marionette, Greta sat in the King’s chair in the study, sinking deeply into it.
She closed her eyes and followed the presence that kept pricking at her senses.
The heart of the Empire—the outskirts of the capital.
The presence swayed chaotically, utterly disordered.
“Foolishness.”
Greta clicked her tongue briefly.
She disliked nothing more than someone worshiping the Ancient God beyond her sight, doing who knew what.
If some ignorant fool performed a botched ritual, the Ancient God’s descent would only be delayed—
or worse, might fail entirely. She had to find the culprit and burn them without fail.
No matter what they’d done, everything must be purified.
“Should I contact Cryer?”
He’d been caught by the Imperial Princess, hadn’t he? No—more likely, he’d chosen to stay there.
A mere princess couldn’t possibly hold him.
But Greta quickly shook her head.
She didn’t need his help for such a trivial rat.
“All is by the will of the Ancient God.”
If it was something he, the pure warrior of the god, wished to do, then it must be the god’s will.
“Cryer.”
As she spoke his name, stroking an empty canvas, a more radiant and beautiful smile than ever bloomed on Greta’s face.
“No matter how far apart we are, you remain so vivid to me.”
Closing her eyes as she embraced the blank canvas, deep shadows fell upon Greta’s eyelids.

By the time servants’ blood splattered the corridors of Norden Palace,
Olivia and Cryer had just pushed through dense thickets and reached a fairly wide clearing.
“Here.”
At Cryer’s words, Olivia carefully surveyed the surroundings, but saw nothing particularly notable.
“I should have asked this earlier.”
“Hmm?”
“This case—do you not remember it?”
Trending
Olivia instantly understood he meant something from before her regression and shook her head.
“There was such a case, yes… but…”
Narrowing her eyes and furrowing her brow, Olivia tried to recall.
“At the time, a separate investigator was assigned, and the case was closed shortly after.”
“Closed? Then you should know who the culprit is.”
She knew what he left unsaid—why not go arrest them right away?—but Olivia shook her head again.
“I don’t know who the culprit is.”
“Was the case closed without catching the culprit?”
“No. They did find the culprit, but the body was completely charred, and it was discovered in the home of one of the missing persons.”
In effect, there was currently no clue whatsoever to uncover the true identity of the culprit.
“You said you smelled blood. Where?”
“Here. And over there too.”
Cryer’s brow furrowed deeply as he pointed to earth darker than the surrounding soil, as if recently dug up.
The mingling stench of blood leaking beyond the thicket and the putrid rot of decaying flesh—
it was nauseatingly foul.
“Here?”
Olivia took a step toward the spot Cryer first indicated, then blinked.
“What?”
Her foot had suddenly floated into empty air.
“Cryer?”
Cryer swept her up lightly with one arm, kicked off the ground, and crushed the damp soil beneath—squelching it, and splattering even darker red earth from underneath.
Setting Olivia down away from the apparent crime scene, Cryer asked,
“I suspected as much—can you not smell the blood at all?”
Olivia replied, puzzled,
“I’d have to get closer. Unlike you, I’m just an ordinary human.”
Her reasoning seemed plausible enough, yet Cryer didn’t nod in agreement.
“You can’t smell this wretched stench?”
Cryer pressed, and Olivia scrunched her nose, sniffing—but aside from the scent of grass, she detected nothing.
“Yeah. Actually, it smells kind of sweet? Like fragrant flowers? Wretched? Really?”
Her eyes wide, Olivia hurriedly scanned the area, then spotted Cryer already back in the clearing and called out,
“Why go alone!”
“You’re better off staying there. The ground around here is severely tainted.”
Hearing Cryer’s words, confusion washed over Olivia’s face again.
“Tainted?”
Her question was only natural.
Lush green shrubs surrounded them, and a faintly sweet floral scent hung in the air.
True, the recently disturbed earth was suspicious—but tainted?
Instead of giving her a proper answer, Cryer picked up a broken twig lying nearby.
—Whoosh.
With a light swing, the twig sliced the air, splitting the damp, black earth like soft cake.
It was an unbelievable sight—the twig was barely twice the length of Olivia’s index finger—but Olivia, the sole witness, wasn’t surprised at all.
What was there to be amazed by?
This was the man who’d once swung his sword and shattered the Imperial Palace’s walls—the strongest in the Empire.
Even if he’d just drawn a line with his bare finger and achieved the same result, she wouldn’t have blinked.
Instead, she stood on tiptoe, waving her hands eagerly.
“Cryer, say something! What’s going on, seriously?”
Though utterly frustrated, she stayed put—knowing he must have a reason for telling her not to move.
She didn’t think he told her only the truth, but neither did she believe he’d waste time on pointless lies.
When three deep creases had formed on her brow from waiting,
Cryer finally spoke.
ads
“When did it start, you said?”
“The disappearances?”
“Yes.”
Olivia recalled the documents she’d meticulously reviewed the previous night and answered, but Cryer shook his head.
“It began far earlier. At least a few years ago.”
“What do you mean? Even if we go there—”
Before she could finish, Cryer stood right before her.
Too startled to speak, Olivia’s mouth hung open in shock—and Cryer gently closed it for her with his hand.
At his touch, Olivia snapped her mouth shut, then glared at him, a surge of injustice welling up inside.
“I just wanted you to see it faster, since you looked so impatient.”
Though she hadn’t said a word, Cryer seemed to sense her irritation at his habit of suddenly appearing without warning, and added quietly.
But seeing the hurt swelling in her blue eyes and her rounded shoulders still trembling faintly, Cryer lowered his head.
“I’m sorry.”
“If you know that, then don—”
“I’ll keep doing this, so you’d better get used to it.”
Before her protest was fully out, Olivia cried out at Cryer, who was already shaking his head.
“Is that how you apologize—Mmf! Mmmph! Ngh!”
Her mouth muffled by his large hand covering half her face, Olivia slapped his hand in protest—but froze at his next words.
“Get used to it.”
She couldn’t see his eyes, shadowed as they were, but his quiet voice carried nothing but raw sincerity.
“Because I can’t warn you every single time danger comes and save you each time.”
Olivia stared up at him.
There was no part of his statement she could argue with.
After all, weren’t they in the same boat, running toward the same goal?
And that goal was anything but something achievable with cheerful laughter—it was perilous, with blades flashing at their very throats.
But still…
Olivia slowly pulled his hand away.
“Cryer.”
At her call, calm blue eyes like a windless lake met burning crimson eyes like scorched earth.
How long had they stood facing each other like this?
At last, Olivia parted her lips.
“You’re right. I should get used to it.”
“Yeah.”
Before she could even draw breath after his swift reply, Olivia pushed his chest lightly and shook her head.
“It’s true…”
It was perfectly accurate, given their current situation.
Four times. He’d killed her—mercilessly, without hesitation—four times.
Even knowing they were allies now, and that he wasn’t some mindless killer who shed blood without reason…
“I’m afraid of you.”
Olivia’s voice trembled faintly as she met Cryer’s gaze without flinching.
It was instinctive fear.
Like that between the apex predator and its helpless prey.
Cryer didn’t comfort her.
He couldn’t understand her fear, nor empathize with it.
He simply spoke his absolute truth.
“I won’t kill you.”
How could she not recognize the sincerity in that quiet voice?
Olivia nodded vigorously.
“I know. But even knowing that, my heart keeps sinking—wha—what are you doing?”

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.
From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.
But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.
Mini scene 1:
One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.
Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”
Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”
Mini scene 2:
After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.
Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.
Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”
Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”
Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.
