Isaac felt the cold sweat flowing down his back and smiled, his eyes gleaming like a fox.

He was a different breed than the knights outside, babbling about the upcoming martial arts tournament.

Whether it was a matter of family history or not, Isaac was more loyal to his survival instinct than anyone else.

And that instinct was screaming at him.

To catch that man.

He soon folded his eyes like a fox again and greeted him politely.

“Isaac, Isaac Aikendell.”

However, Cryer, who had been leaning diagonally against the pillar, just stared at him blankly.

It was an extremely rude response, completely ignoring Isaac, who had greeted him first.

But Isaac didn’t blush with shame or get angry.

He rather came out with a totally unrelated remark.

“I can see why the princess is hosting the martial arts tournament so grandly.”

He slowly backed away from Cryer and added.

“Because your name will be heard throughout the empire that day.”

Everyone but Olivia, who knew Cryer, would be incredulous if they heard this.

A knight from a kingdom with no reputation to speak of making a name for himself in the martial arts tournament.

Cryer watched Isaac, who was still smiling like a fox, with a blank look, but no matter how he looked, he couldn’t find any intention of sarcasm or mockery.

Well, he’s got better eyes than those guys who blindly showed hostility towards him, acting like a wild boar bravely charging at an unknown place.

With that much of a thought, Cryer brushed past Isaac’s shoulder.

“Don’t get involved in the night’s play.”

As the languid whisper flowed into his ears, a chill ran down Isaac’s back all at once.

He realized at the same time.

That man was the one who dealt with the guests who came looking for the princess during the night’s play.

He must have revealed himself after hearing his thoughtlessly slipped words about ‘sneaking out in the middle of the night’.

Isaac was not looking at the shadow of Cryer disappearing, but at his unwavering back.

Cryer, who had warned Isaac, forgot about his name and existence in just a few steps.

Because his mind was filled with only one person.

The sight that he was now familiar with came into his eyes as he silently opened the door to the princess’s office.

Square, square, square.

Mountains of paperwork, the sound of a pen scrubbing the paper from beyond that paperwork, and the soft smell of ink.

He found the small head moving the pen tirelessly, expertly sifting through the confidential documents.

The tips of her ears exposed between her shaking red hair, following the up and down movement of the pen, were flushed.

Her cheeks and the corners of her eyes would be dyed the same color.

Cryer approached Olivia until he was right in front of her nose.

“You know it’s better to rest, don’t you? Or are you intentionally fostering a disease?”

Upon hearing the soft voice just above her head, Olivia slowly raised her head.

“Oh … Cough, cough, cough.”

Her throat, which had become dry as soon as she opened her mouth, split with a violent cough, and Cryer stared at her round shoulders shaking violently and then opened his mouth.

“If you’re asking when I came, just now. Besides.”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but she didn’t need to hear it to know.

“Cough, cough. I wouldn’t be stupid enough to purposely foster a disease. Our ancestors also said that physical strength is national power.”

After clearing her throat, Olivia put the final period on the document and added.

“I’ll take a break after one more report.”

“You’ve been saying the same thing for days.”

“Well, that’s because I’ve had to see one more document for days… Ah!”

Before she could even finish her sentence, she suddenly gripped the armrests of the chair due to her suddenly elevated view.

“Take a rest now.”

“Do you even know how heavy this chair is……?”

It was the first time he had lifted her up with the chair.

“It’s heavier than most.”

In response to Cryer’s answer, who had lifted Olivia and the chair at once and put them far away from the desk, Olivia was speechless.

“They say the office chair is made to withstand even six strong men clinging to it for the purpose of assassination prevention.”

“Well, those socalled strong men must be weak.”

“You’re tossing it over! No… You would be able to toss it over.”

She was definitely feverish and her sense of order was out of place.

There was no way that Cryer, who had brought down the empire’s walls with a single stroke, would struggle with a heavy chair.

“Stacking not one, but two, three chairs and spinning them around on both arms…”

A large hand covered the bloodless lips that were babbling incoherently.

Whether his hand was cold or my face was hot.

“The fever has gone up.”

Listening to his words, it seemed my face was hot.

Feeling the hot breath on his palm, Cryer pulled away his hand that had been covering Olivia’s mouth, and lifted her, who was wiggling on the chair.

Olivia, who collapsed weakly in his arms, continued to mumble with the pen in her hand.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
