After all, she didn’t know about the existence of a god, especially the term ‘god,’ before meeting Cryer.
Moreover, a ‘god’ wasn’t an opponent she could fight against or prepare for.
However, no matter how true that might be, it’s to this extent.
“Nothing.”
At the words that flowed through her dry lips, Olivia tightly sealed her mouth.
She knew it, but when spoken aloud, the fact became vividly clear, making it intolerable.
But she couldn’t endure it without saying anything because only that thought came to mind.
Olivia looked down at her empty hands with empty eyes and murmured.
“I have nothing in my hands, continuously unable to grasp anything, and again… again.”
When Olivia’s hands, unable to continue, began to tremble slightly, Cryer pulled her close, knowing that she didn’t want to show her face. He whispered quietly from behind, embracing her.
“It’s not a coincidence or fate. It’s because I moved this much that I obtained things with these hands.”
Holding Olivia’s hand, Cryer turned it so that the palm faced upward.
Looking down at the much smaller palm that fit into his hand, he continued speaking.
“If I hadn’t saved the woman from Tarenga, would I have known about the missing servant, or if I hadn’t taken Isaac, would I have known about the existence of the child with the stamp?”
To prevent Olivia’s palm from looking empty, he put a ring on her finger.
“If you hadn’t caught me back then, I would still be scraping the bottom of hell.”
“Even now, you haven’t changed anything…”
“I have. I’ve changed completely.”
The stamp embedded in his collarbone remained clear without becoming blurry, so he, meeting her before or now, was still a slave to the ancient god.
Even so, Cryer was sincere enough to show, or rather, wanted to show, to the extent that he could extract his heart and present it.
I met you.
I held your hand.
I stayed by your side.
I…
Oh yes. How much I’ve been redeemed.
The situation hasn’t changed at all, but just knowing that Olivia is by my side allows me to barely catch my breath.
So please believe. Please understand. Please let this be conveyed.
“I have changed since I met you.”
In the deeply locked voice filled with sincerity that brushed against her ear, Olivia’s chest surged, and she exhaled loudly.
As if that word became her breath.
In that moment, the two became each other’s breathing holes.
Though Olivia’s hand was empty, for some reason, it didn’t feel that way right now. Looking down at the palm that seemed to be filled, she whispered.
“Just a little… I’ll stay like this for a little longer.”
It was almost inaudible, but Cryer, pulling her gently, buried his face in Olivia’s shoulder.
For a long time, they had leaned on each other’s warmth and hearts.
Sugar, whose whereabouts were undecided, stayed silent in the Royal Palace for several days.
Olivia looked down at her unwrapped ankles and mumbled.
“It strangely feels thinner.”
“It’s because you haven’t been using it. If you walk properly for a while, it will return to normal.”
Approaching silently, Cryer grabbed her ankle, and with a touch like brushing against a peach bone, he gently lifted it. Feeling ticklish, Olivia rounded her back and put strength into her foot.
Staring intently at the sight of blue veins appearing on her white instep, Cryer soon released the small foot that fit into one hand and asked.
“Where are you going today?”
“I didn’t say anything. How did you know where I’m going?”
Olivia, with her rabbit-like eyes wide open, meticulously adjusted her attire. However, as she wore her usual outfit, it was impossible to determine her intention to go out just by her clothes.
“I’ve been watching you.”
In response to the casually spoken answer, Olivia nodded her head and then fell silent.
So, does that mean he’s been watching me continuously? Why? Ah, I see.
Remembering the embarrassing moment a few days ago when she had fallen asleep as if fainting in his arms, Olivia awkwardly waved her hand and said, “It’s okay now. My head was a bit messed up back then.”
Even a grown-up could feel anxious and restless, and in that moment of softening emotions, Sugar, just like before, quietly fell asleep.
How much had she filled the blanket when she woke up the next day?
Cryer, who had been silently watching Olivia, was about to add a word but held back.
If he were to say, “Even if that’s not the reason, I’m always watching you,” would it really be conveyed?
Olivia, who strongly resists any closeness that hints at ‘that’ meaning, is uncomfortable with it. If it gets across, she might raise her ears like a rabbit and run away. If it doesn’t get across… well, she might just sigh, so it’s probably better to keep her mouth shut.
“Ahem, anyway, I’m not going out for a stroll today. I’m going to Lord Heynder’s estate, so I’ll dress up properly.”
“Did you say to check it out once?”
“Even if it’s not at Her Majesty’s command, I feel like I have to go at least once.”
Olivia suddenly lowered her body and then muted her voice.
“Does Lord Heynder also seem to be related to the ancient god?”
“Since there’s no one around, there’s no need to lower your voice.”
“I know that, but the combination of Lord Heynder and the ancient god is a bit…”
After a momentary pause, Olivia whispered even more quietly.
“It seems not a bit but rather very dangerous.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
