“Ye Ryung, try a bit of this. How’s the seasoning? Is it too salty?”

It was the day Tae Jo and Se Kyung were supposed to come.

As soon as she got off work, Ye Ryung headed straight to her in-laws’ house and accepted a piece of tteokgalbi from Madam Ma.

The meat in her mouth melted tenderly without any dryness. The seasoning was neither too bland nor too salty—just right to eat with rice.

“No, it’s perfect.”

“Really? What about the jjigae broth over there? I’m not sure if the dishes turned out too oily.”

Ye Ryung smiled as she looked at the dining table, bent so much it seemed about to collapse.

The other day, when Madam Ma had called her over, Ye Ryung got scolded for not speaking up even though she knew Tae Jo was meeting Se Kyung.

Then, Madam Ma asked Ye Ryung what food she should prepare, since Se Kyung would soon come to pay her respects.

“Last time we ate together, she couldn’t seem to eat seafood—probably because of morning sickness. I actually asked Se Kyung myself, and she said anything I usually cook would be fine.”

“That’s just her being polite. Still, it’s her first time formally meeting Tae Jo—how can I possibly serve something too simple?”

Though she said that, her usual meals weren’t exactly plain.

Whenever the whole family gathered, Madam Ma always prepared at least one labor-intensive dish, and according to Madam Hong, the number of side dishes increased by five or six compared to normal days.

And today, hearing Se Kyung was coming, Madam Ma seemed to have pulled out all the stops with her cooking.
