The Price of Impulse (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 11
Tae Jo parked his car next to a high wall and got out from the driver’s seat.
It was an area lined with fortress-like mansions. Few cars passed by, and the street lay quietly asleep.
Beep.
As soon as he rang the doorbell, someone inside checked the visitor and opened the gate. Tae Jo climbed the stone steps and entered the main floor, which felt like a second story.
Walking across the garden on black basalt slabs laid like stepping stones, he was greeted by a man who looked strikingly similar to him.
“You’re here?”
“Yeah. You came early.”
“Well, it’s the family home. I came back together with Father.”
The one who had come out to meet Tae Jo was his older brother, Yoon Jo, who was just two years his senior.
Yoon Jo had been the first CEO of Jin Entertainment, the company Tae Jo currently ran. Six years ago, he handed it over to Tae Jo and moved to JK Group, where their father served as CEO.
JK Group primarily focused on food, retail, and media businesses.
Yoon Jo had originally founded Jin Entertainment due to his interest in media ventures.
His ultimate goal had been to discover talented actors and create K-content with global appeal—but…
Now, he had set aside that ambition and was focusing more on the food division.
“What about Sister-in-law? Did she come too?”
“Yeah. Everyone’s just waiting for you now.”
Yoon Jo patted Tae Jo’s back as if urging him to hurry inside.
As they entered the house, a delicious aroma tickled his nose. Following his brother to the dining room, Tae Jo greeted his family.
“I’m here, Father.”
“Why don’t you come a bit earlier? Why are you always the last one?”
“He’s running a business too—how can he always be on time? Sit down. You came at just the right moment. We were about to start dinner.”
Madam Ma Hye Young, answering on Tae Jo’s behalf, gestured for him to take a seat. He walked over to sit beside his mother and gave a slight nod to Ye Ryung across the table.
“It’s been a while, Sister-in-law. I hope you’ve been well?”
“Of course. And you, young master? Everything alright?”
Ye Ryung smiled gently and politely asked in return. Tae Jo, whom she expected to say everything was fine, surprisingly hesitated.
“Hmm, well… nothing much…”
…Or maybe there was something. Or maybe not.
As Tae Jo picked up his spoon and tilted his head in confusion, Madam Ma frowned.
“Why cut your answer off like that? Did something bad happen?”
“Oh, no, nothing like that. Actually, there’s some good news.”
“Good news? What is it?”
Yoon Jo, who had just pulled a chunk of fish off the bone and put it in his mouth, asked his brother.
“You know that American OTT platform—the one starting with ‘M’? They’ve decided to invest in our drama.”
“Really? That’s great. How much are they investing?”
“About 23 billion won. Oh, and you’ve read Director Ji’s script, right? We’re moving forward with producing it.”
“Oh, so you’re finally doing that one.”
Hearing Yoon Jo’s exclamation, Ye Ryung turned to him curiously and asked what it was about.
Chairman Jin, who had been quietly listening to his sons’ conversation, spoke to Tae Jo.
“So, Tae Jo, how much longer are you planning to stay over there? You should join the company like your brother.”
“Since Hyung’s already there, why do you need me too?”
“Why not apply that talent of yours to our company? Yoon Jo’s handling the food sector—wouldn’t it be perfect if you took charge of media?”
“I still prefer things as they are. I find more fulfillment in receiving scripts I truly want and being involved in production.”
“But doesn’t JK Media also produce dramas?”
“If I join, will I really get to take part in production? More likely, I’d just be stuck in some senior role, approving documents all day.”
Tae Jo glanced pointedly at his brother as if seeking confirmation. Reading their father’s expression, Yoon Jo merely offered an awkward smile, unable to say “that’s right.”
“Well then, forget about joining the company for now—what about your marriage?”
Ah, why does the conversation always veer this way?
“I’m going to choke on my food, Father,” Tae Jo coughed awkwardly, trying to dodge the uncomfortable question. Madam Ma shot her husband a warning look.
“Honestly, let’s talk about that later. Ye Ryung and I are already looking for a suitable young lady for Tae Jo anyway.”
What? Why are you searching without even asking what I like?

Tae Jo frowned and looked over at Ye Ryung.
Her eyes, asking if it was true, made her quietly avert her gaze.

After finishing his meal, which felt almost oppressive, Tae Jo went up to the second floor and stepped out onto the terrace for a cigarette.
“I should’ve escaped before they started talking about marriage.”
He exhaled slowly, and white smoke drifted away. Taking one last deep drag, he stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray.
Just as he was about to go back inside after airing out the smell from his clothes, he heard the door click open.
He turned around to see Ye Ryung clinging to Yoon Jo’s side like a cicada as they entered.
“Traitor.”
“Oh? Are you talking to me?”
Hanging onto her husband’s arm, Ye Ryung looked hurt. When Tae Jo gave her a “who else could I mean?” look, she giggled.
“Sister-in-law, are you really looking for a blind date match for me?”
“How can a daughter-in-law go against her mother-in-law’s wishes?”
Ye Ryung shrugged and sat down in a chair. Tae Jo shifted slightly toward the railing, worried the cigarette smoke might reach her.
“Even if you can’t stop her yourself, couldn’t you at least try to dissuade her?”
“How can a rabbit land a jab on a tiger? I don’t want to get on her bad side by trying to stop her.”
Ye Ryung cupped one cheek and feigned delicate helplessness.
Tae Jo was speechless. He’d known Ye Ryung for twenty years.
As the youngest daughter of a legal family, she overflowed with a sense of justice—she couldn’t stand by when she saw injustice.
In high school, when a friend was being bullied, she chose to spend time with her, ended up getting bullied herself, and then turned the whole school upside down.
She called the police, reported the teachers for ignoring the bullying to the education office, and even informed her parents—resulting in her tormentors getting suspended.
Ever since then, everyone at school knew not to mess with Ban Ye Ryung—and now she’s calling herself a rabbit?
“That rabbit seems quite capable of throwing a jab, though.”
“Maybe to others, but in front of Mother, even I’m just a gentle creature. Who can possibly win against our mother? Even Father can’t stand up to her, right, dear?”
When Ye Ryung looked to Yoon Jo for agreement, he nodded.
Although Hye Young had recently stepped down as CEO of JK Food due to health reasons, her charisma remained legendary within the company.
Her decisive, straightforward leadership, bulldozer-like drive, and willingness to accept losses to protect the company’s image were well known.
Especially since she loved wearing leopard-print fashion items, employees had even nicknamed her “CEO Tiger.”
“But, young master…”
Ye Ryung called out to Tae Jo with a meaningful smile. He looked down at her with a “why are you being so scary?” expression.
“Do you have someone—a woman?”
“What?”
Though Tae Jo was the one asked, it was Yoon Jo who looked shocked.
“Are you seeing someone?”
What on earth was this out-of-the-blue question? Tae Jo frowned as he looked back and forth between them.
“What’s with that random question?”
“Well… ever since dinner, I’ve noticed something. Your body’s been absolutely radiating women’s perfume today.”
“…”
“Unless you accidentally drenched yourself in it, that kind of lingering scent means you’ve been with someone all day, right?”
Tae Jo clamped his mouth shut like a clam. Yoon Jo stared wide-eyed at his younger brother.
“What? Are you really seeing someone?”
“No, nothing like that.”
He had a pretty good idea why she’d say that.
Thinking it would help him piece together fragmented memories, he’d sprayed Se Kyung’s perfume a few extra times—more than just once or twice.
That must be why the scent had soaked into his skin.
“Then what’s with that perfume smell?”
“Well… I had to verify something, so I sprayed it a bit.”
“Verify? What could you possibly verify with women’s perfume?”
Ye Ryung’s eyes sparkled mischievously. It seemed she’d already caught onto something strange.
He couldn’t tell her the truth—and they say women have good intuition for a reason.

“By the way, how do you even know it’s women’s perfume? Do you know what brand that scent is from?”
“I don’t know the brand, but I know it’s not your usual scent. Sweet fragrances like that are commonly worn by women—and you usually wear the same one as my husband.”
“That was back then. We don’t use the same one anymore.”
“Anyway—just be honest if there’s someone. Then I can at least tell Mother we should hold off on selecting a blind date match.”
Ye Ryung looked up at him with a playful grin. Even if he denied it, she seemed certain he had someone in his life.
“I’m not seeing anyone.”
“Then what kind of woman is your type? Someone sweet and affectionate? Or someone lovely like me?”
Did she poison the food…?
When Ye Ryung cupped her chin with a flower-like gesture, Tae Jo rubbed his face as if he’d seen something he shouldn’t have.
“Hyung, please tell your wife to stop.”
“Why? She’s cute.”
Ah, damn… I forgot this guy’s a total wife-lover.
“I’m leaving.”
“Why? Stay a bit longer.”
As Tae Jo left the terrace, Ye Ryung and Yoon Jo trailed behind him like ducklings.
“I suddenly feel like being alone.”
“Really? Mother! The young master’s leaving already!”
Ye Ryung shouted down the stairs toward the lower floor. Madam Ma, who had been eating fruit, turned her head.
“Leaving so soon?”
“I just remembered something urgent I need to handle.”
Tae Jo snatched up his jacket from the sofa.
If he stayed any longer, who knew what else he’d have to hear? He needed to leave this house first.
“It’s already getting late anyway—can’t it wait until tomorrow?”
“No. I don’t think so.”
Tae Jo answered firmly and quickly headed for the front door. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he turned back to his mother.
“Oh, and please—don’t look for a blind date match for me. Absolutely not!”
After delivering this firm warning, Tae Jo left. Madam Ma immediately looked over at Ye Ryung.
“Did you ask him?”
“Yes.”
“What did he say?”
“He says he’s not seeing anyone.”
“Not seeing anyone, yet he’s practically oozing perfume?”
Hye Young, who’d been sitting right next to Ye Ryung during dinner, couldn’t possibly have missed the scent.
He’s radiating such a sweet fragrance and yet reacting so strongly against blind dates… and claims he’s not seeing anyone?
“Don’t you think he might actually have someone?”
When Hye Young asked, Ye Ryung recalled her recent conversation with Tae Jo.
From the way he spoke, it didn’t sound like he was dating anyone—but more like he’d gotten caught up in some kind of incident.
“Maybe not dating, but I think he’s flirting with someone.”
After all, love only blossoms after a little chaos, right?
Ye Ryung nodded confidently.

After leaving the house, Tae Jo got into his car. As he started the engine and fastened his seatbelt, a small shopping bag on the passenger seat caught his eye.
“Did I really spray that much?”
Frowning, Tae Jo sniffed his arm. Amid the sharp spiciness, a sweet fragrance lingered.
They say the sense of smell adapts quickly—after spraying and inhaling it all day, his nose had already grown accustomed to the scent.
“…”
Tae Jo tapped the steering wheel restlessly. The perfume Se Kyung had given him carried a scent subtly different yet oddly similar to what he remembered smelling on her.
At this point, he even wondered if this was the same fragrance he’d first smelled back at the hotel.
And here he was, sniffing around like a dog again… well, it made him feel strangely ashamed of himself.
“What the hell is this, seriously?”

If Moon Seok Joo was right—and he hadn’t merged with a ghost—then she must have handled everything herself.
Then why did he feel like someone was yanking him by the back of his head?
“Would it feel different if I slept with a diffuser by my bedside?”
He’d find out soon enough—after today passed.
Tae Jo glanced at the passenger seat and turned the wheel.
