Isabel cast a greedy sidelong glance at Delma, who was sipping a cool drink brought by a maid with aristocratic grace.

“Stand up.”

After taking a sip and catching her breath, Delma spoke coldly. Isabel scrambled shakily to her feet. Her knees ached from having knelt for so long. Delma beckoned to her.

“Come here.”

“Yes, Madam.”

“Make sure that common wretch doesn’t act out of turn. From now on, you’ll report to me every single word and action of hers without missing a thing. Understood?”

Dripping drink from her hair, chin, and eyebrows, Isabel stammered her reply in terror.
