The Price is Everything of Yours (76 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 193
The young host of the classical poetry salon welcomed the Grand Duke and Duchess with great delight.
“It is the utmost honor to have both of your Highnesses grace us with your presence!”
No wonder she was overjoyed. Classical poetry was all the rage across the Empire, thanks to the Empress’s fondness for it, and dozens of such salons existed even in the capital alone. And yet, among them all, hers had been chosen by the Grand Duke and Duchess.
Though they were of a status that hardly required attending such a small gathering, Neris had deliberately selected this salon. The host was a prized protégé of Sir Sheridan, the Academy’s etiquette instructor—and a senior of the Sheridan circle. Moreover, she knew that in a few years, this salon would become renowned far and wide.
Being an early member of a famed salon always had its uses—especially for someone intent on keeping a close eye on the Imperial Court’s every move.
“Thank you for inviting us, madam. Your salon is truly splendid.”
Neris pulled her lips into a practiced smile as she offered her greeting. The host, beaming with pride, ushered them into the reception room where the salon would be held.
The reception room was decorated with spring blossoms, and all the curtains had been drawn back from the glass windows, lending it an open, airy feel. Gathered in the center were several notable figures from high society—precisely the sort of people whose presence would explain why this place would soon become famous. To Neris, every face was already familiar.
“Oh my, Megara.”
Spotting someone particularly familiar, Neris called out to her with exaggerated warmth. Megara, seated beside her father, responded sweetly, mindful of those around her.
“Your Highnesses.”
Cledwin stood quietly at Neris’s side, arm linked with hers, as though invisible—but to Megara, this only made things more grating. After all, here was a husband who, despite clearly having no interest in such topics, had accompanied his wife simply to please her.
Why had such a husband been given to Neris Trude? What was so special about her, anyway?
Marquis Rikeandros regarded his daughter as nothing short of an angel. He had known for years that Megara and Neris disliked each other, and firmly believed that anyone who failed to appreciate his perfect daughter must surely possess a flawed character.
Thus, he had never taken a liking to Neris from the start. However, her status as Grand Duchess was far beyond his station to judge, so he bowed politely all the same.
