“You may be two ranks higher in title, but even now, it’s our family’s support that’s securing your marriage to the poor ducal family. What will you eat in that cold place, if not for…… Ow!”

Slap.

Caitlin’s cheek turned. It was my hand that had struck her.

“Apologize.”

Annette, me, hit? Did this abused girl just slap my face?

Caitlin looked at me in disbelief.

A duke’s daughter, used to a pampered life, would never have been slapped before.

But I no longer needed to tolerate a foolish supporting character insulting the male lead.

“Apologize right now.”

“What are you doing!”

“Insulting me is a family matter. But you just insulted the North, where I’m about to marry into. I can’t forgive that.”

“What wrong did I say! Ah! Let go!”

You’re wrong. Insulting the protagonist of this novel is unforgivable.

In the world of the possessed, everything revolves around the protagonist, you fool.

“I won’t let go until you apologize.”

I spoke with a stern voice. Frightened, Caitlin only floundered, unable to respond properly. Even the maids who should have intervened were stunned, merely standing with their hands idle.

Caitlin and I were entangled in a heated confrontation.

Footsteps approached.

“Seems like Miss Annette’s tolerance doesn’t extend to her sister.”

Suddenly, a strong force separated me and Caitlin.

“Aah!”

Startled, Caitlin stumbled backwards and fell, rolling on the floor.

I was securely held in someone’s arms.

“Duke?”

I gaped. The silver mask, the unpleasant voice. It was definitely him. But why was he here?

‘He said he wouldn’t come!’

“I apologize for entering a lady’s room without permission, regardless of the reason.”

He greeted me gracefully.

“But it’s better to close the door when fighting, isn’t it? Otherwise, people like me might barge in.”

“Did you suddenly find free time?”

I looked back and forth between the open door and the Duke, not knowing what to do. My anger subsided, and I wondered if my reaction to Caitlin had been too extreme.
‘If I knew the Duke was coming, I wouldn’t have pulled Caitlin’s hair like that… But then again, wouldn’t the one who got beaten seem to be on the same side?’

If I were a true romantic fantasy heroine, I would have elegantly and sophisticatedly used words, but as a short-lived extra, my body acted out of urgency.

“Wandering aimlessly, I found myself here.”

His grating voice reached my ears. Even though it was altered, it somehow sounded more affectionate.

It seems the Duke prefers wilder women. I should remember that.

“It seems I’ve been thinking about Miss Annette more deeply than I realized.”

“Should I prepare some tea then?”

Ignoring Caitlin, who was still lying on the floor sobbing, I shamelessly asked.

“I would like that, but it seems there is already a guest here today.”

Unfortunately, the Duke was not an owner of the same shameless conscience as mine, capable of leisurely having tea with a crying younger sister in the background.

“If the lady would grant me some of her precious time, I will set an exact appointment and return.”

“Yes, of course!”

I quickly nodded.

“Miss Annette is…”

For a moment, the Duke hesitated as if he was about to comment on me. What? Miss Annette is calm? Attractive even though we’ve just met today? Daring? Why stop talking, you’re making me curious!

‘What is it, Your Grace?’

“But Lady Caitlin.”

“Yes?”

Instead of continuing about me, the Duke called out to Caitlin, who was sobbing in a corner.

“The North is cold. Therefore, the luxurious foods common in the South are rare. But remember, the peace in the South is due to our guarding the northern border.”

His voice was cold, like frost. Caitlin shivered.

“I, I…”

‘She heard.’

Caitlin, barely getting up with Sir Daniel’s help, slumped back down, losing her strength.

“And Miss Annette, in the North, we don’t accept apologies through force.”

He whispered in a voice that seemed meant only for me.

If it weren’t for the silver mask, his tone might have felt like a joke, so friendly it was.

Until the Duke left the room, Caitlin couldn’t even properly look at him. Red hairs I had torn out littered Caitlin’s knees, falling one by one.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
