The pleased smile that had appeared on Duke Kuran’s face vanished instantly. He glared at his nephew with a sharp gaze.
“How? Isn’t it obvious? I turned him into a monster. But why on earth did you kill Count Camun when you knew how much Maria adored him!”
“He remembered Lady Romnin’s death and even threatened to tell Ruela about it. I had no choice but to deal with him.”
Balder, who had just shouted in defense, took a brief breath and forced his voice to calm down as he spoke.
“But even if Maria adores him, what are we supposed to do about bringing a dead man back to life? Do you even know what people are whispering? They say the Kingdom of Kuran is ruled by monsters.”
Duke Kuran turned his gaze toward the garden and spoke as if it were of no consequence.
“Isn’t that actually true? Thanks to the monsters, we easily broke away from Helane.”
