While the guards were in chaos, Ruella and her companions had arrived in the bustling area of Helane.

“I miss this. How long has it been?”

Hazen, opening the carriage window, deeply breathed in the outside air, muttering with a nostalgic tone.

“Shall we go straight to the royal capital?”

Looking back through the window with a jade screen, Raphael asked.

“No, let’s go to Senhwe’s mansion first.”

“Senhwe is in Helane?”

“Yeah. Before heading to the royal capital, it’s better to check the current situation in Helane. And…”

Looking at Ruella, Kite added, “We should also introduce Ruella.”

“Got it. Then let’s depart.”
Raphael, after casually smiling at the people who were raising eyebrows at their sudden appearance, started the carriage.

Looking out the window, Ruella examined the place where she would soon be living.

Helane was similar to Kuran, yet different. Above all, the people seemed much livelier and vibrant.

“Isn’t it fascinating?”

Seeing Ruella absentmindedly staring outside, Kite asked with a playful tone.

“Yes. Even though it doesn’t feel unfamiliar at all, it somehow feels strange. And the weather, considering it’s midsummer, is surprisingly cool.”

“The capital of Helane is oddly not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter.”

“Is it only the capital?”

“Yeah. So people have always been curious about the reason.”

Interrupting Kite’s explanation, Hazen chimed in.

“But it’s not always like that. You heard from Senhwe, right? During the extreme cold spell 30 years ago, many people died… Ouch, why?”

As Tien quietly gestured to him to stop, Hazen, as if expressing his displeasure, protested with a hint of annoyance.

“It’s okay, Tien. Grandfather became king because of the riot back then, but it’s not our fault. So there’s no need to hush and tiptoe around me.”

In response to Kite’s words, Hazen rolled his eyes in a seemingly surprised expression.

While Ruella was contemplating the numerous events that had happened in this place, the carriage arrived in front of a certain mansion.
Like a place they visited every day, the carriage entered the main gate without any restrictions and stopped in front of a simple mansion, different from the landscape seen from the outside.

“Are you nervous?”

Kite asked Ruella, escorting her as she descended from the carriage.

“A little.”

Meeting the person who had summoned her here would be a lie if she claimed not to feel nervous.

“Come on in.”

Before they could climb the stairs in front of the entrance, the door opened, and an elderly man with long white hair appeared.

“Senhwe, we’re here!”

Hazen shouted with excitement, and the old man responded with a faint smile.

“I knew you would come. Surprised it got resolved faster than I thought. Is it thanks to this young lady?”

Senhwe looked at Ruella and spoke with an even more affectionate tone.

“Yes. Ruella was a great help. Ruella, let me introduce you. This is Senhwe, our master we mentioned before.”

“Hello, Ru… ella Ro, Minin.”

Ruella bowed as she would have in her original world, not following the formalities she learned in Kuran.

It felt uncomfortable pretending to be Ruella Rominin in front of the person who had summoned her here.

“Is it still awkward to use that name?”

Senhwe asked, and Ruella smiled bitterly, shaking her head.

“No. I’m used to it now. But introducing myself as Ruella in front of someone who knows everything about me feels a bit awkward.”
“There’s no need to feel awkward, and you don’t have to worry about me observing you. I will always support your intentions.”

Senhwe added with a gentle folding of his wrinkled eyes.

“After all, it was I who summoned you here. So if anything happens, I will wholeheartedly stand by your side. Don’t worry and feel free to ease your mind.”

Tears welled up in Ruella’s eyes.

Though Kite, her comrades, and the people of the Peroz Mansion had often said similar words, Senhwe’s words brought a different sense of reassurance.

She nodded her head silently without saying a word.

Senhwe gently patted her shoulder as a comforting gesture and continued, “Let’s go inside. There’s a lot to discuss about the current situation in Helane. The authority over border management has fallen into the hands of Count Patre. What happened?”

Entering inside, Senhwe began explaining, “About a month ago, Count Patre’s son and Count Tamare’s daughter held a wedding. And a week later, the entire Tamare family in Tamare Castle perished in a fire.”

“Everyone in the family died?”

When Kite asked in a surprised tone, Senhwe turned around.

“Yes. Can you guess who the culprit might be in this incident?”

“Was it the son of Count Patre?”

To Haizen’s response, Senhwe shook his head.

“No. They say it was a demon who killed them. The survivors all testified that a demon with black hair and red eyes flew down from the sky and killed the family members.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
