“Jin Woo.”

She forced a smile toward him in a hurry, but Jin Woo’s sharp eyes flashed. Without a word, he stepped into the elevator and pressed the top-floor button.

“Weren’t you on your way to a meeting?”

Jin Woo stared fixedly at the closing doors, his jaw clenching instead of answering.

“…Is it something you can’t tell me?”

His voice, when it finally came after a long pause, was softer than she expected. Ji Na couldn’t bring herself to reply.

She feared that if she opened her mouth, all the questions rising in her throat would spill out at once. The elevator reached the top floor in an instant and the doors slid open. Jin Woo took Ji Na’s hand. His grip was so warm she felt tears welling up.

“You don’t have to force yourself to wear the ring.”

Gently leading her, Jin Woo spoke softly.

“I don’t want to burden you, noona.”

He entered an empty conference room reserved only for executives and firmly shut the door behind them.

“I really am fine, you know.”

Relieved it was dark inside, Ji Na forced a smile. At her words, Jin Woo silently looked down at her.

Shadows lightly traced his handsome features; his deep-set eyes were unreadable, layered with thought. Normally, Ji Na wouldn’t have looked away, but now she did—afraid he’d see right through her.

“Let’s rest for a bit.”
