“So this is the future of Korea, huh? Huh?”

Do Jin’s expression, as he listened to Director Jung’s worried talk about the nation’s future, looked oddly desperate.

Normally confident in his ability to hide his emotions, Do Jin today seemed to wear the words “anxious, uneasy, worried” right on his face.

“No, is there something troubling you at home?”

Just as Director Jung shifted the topic from Korea’s fate to the broader direction of the international community—spittle flying mid-speech—he finally noticed Do Jin’s grimace and asked with a frown.

“Oh, it’s just… my mother’s currently hospitalized…”

It wasn’t the real reason, but he found himself making excuses without even realizing it.

“I see. Right before your wedding, too. You must be really worried about your mother. A man, after all, should…”

Disappointment spread across Do Jin’s face just as he’d briefly allowed himself hope that Director Jung’s monologue might finally end. The director, however, talked leisurely until nearly the end of lunch, then stood up looking satisfied.

“Well, I’ve got a meeting this afternoon, so I’ll head straight to the client. You go on ahead.”

“Yes, Director. Please take care.”

Do Jin bowed respectfully and quickly returned to the office. The woman he’d seen getting off the elevator earlier was Lee Sun Young from accounting—the very person he’d asked to privately share the corporate card statements.

“If it’s for you, Do Jin, of course I’ll do it.”

He’d deliberately charmed her just to use her. And he’d smoothly exploited her every which way. She probably didn’t even know he was getting married. Or even if not married yet, that he was in a relationship—so she must’ve thought…

Rushing back to his office until his breath caught in his throat, Do Jin found two women tearing at each other’s hair right in front of him. Since it was nearly time for lunch to end, other colleagues were already back in the office.
