The ashtray that had hit Reina’s head and was rolling on the floor came to a stop after colliding with the wall.

While trying to keep herself from unconsciously touching her bleeding head, Reina stooped over as if nothing had happened.

“Did you find it.”

Her voice came out fortunately calm.

A melodic voice echoed from the front.

“You’re late. What were you doing that you only come now.”

Reina, who had come as soon as she heard she was summoned, could not refute.

Reina bowed her head towards the silhouette of the lady with long hair spread out in the darkness.

“I apologize.”

Thankfully, Mrs. Hurst made a brief excuse for her.

“The Lady had some teachings to give.”

The lady laughed.

“Oh, is that so? You should have said so earlier.”

You should have given me a chance to speak.

But that was just a thought.

Her mouth faithfully replies.

“I apologize.”

Drip. A droplet of blood clung to her chin and fell down.

The lady looked at Reina through the mirror, crossing her long legs.

“Pick that up.”

Reina quickly picked up the ashtray that had stopped near the wall and approached Christina.

She bowed her head after confirming that it wasn’t bloodstained, and handed the ashtray with both hands, but Christina clicked her tongue and gestured to somewhere else.

When she turned her head to the place the lady had pointed out, she only then noticed the comb that had fallen on the floor.

After placing the ashtray on the table next to Christina, Reina turned her body without delay and picked up the comb.

While turning around, she wiped the blood flowing from her forehead so that it would not be noticeable with the black part of her sleeve.

Reina went forward to Christina again and politely handed over the comb with both hands.

However, Christina did not accept it and stared at Reina, who was holding out the comb.

Under the subtle lighting cast by highquality wax candles, the beautiful figure of the noble lady entered Reina’s eyes.

“…….”

Transparent skin without any flaws. Hair shining golden and curly.

Emerald green eyes that seemed to hold the sunlight of newly sprouted greens, and long eyelashes laid over them.

Red lips that occasionally held a faint smile.

Such a face was so beautiful and also appeared so sensitive.

“…….”

How could the Lady and Mrs. Hurst have thought to set me up as a double for this person?

Among the maids, Reina, who was heard to be a beauty, was a rugged lady, unlike this delicate and sophisticated lady.

“…….”

Christina, who was looking up at Reina, turned her gaze and looked at the mirror, speaking coldly.

“I would like to talk to her alone.”

Mrs. Hurst said, “Yes,” and disappeared outside the door after bowing.

Until then, Christina was just staring at the mirror.

The suffocating air.

Even after the sound of Mrs. Hurst’s footsteps moving away disappeared and some time had passed, Christina opened her mouth.

“Comb my hair.”

Reina responded, “Yes,” and moved her hand, which was holding out the comb, behind Christina.

And she untangled and let down her tantalizing hair outside the chair, then readjusted the grip on the comb.

The strands of hair, like gold thread, flowed through Reina’s fingers.

The glass ashtray on the table let the candlelight through and cast sharp patterns on it.

Five years ago.

Seventeenyearold Christina, who was causing a fuss here refusing to marry, overlapped with her appearance now.

…Back then, the Duke had thrown the ashtray at the lady.

Come to think of it, back then, I was the one who got hit with the ashtray instead.

Well, it’s something no one remembers.

“….Would hibiscus be alright?”

Christina silently pointed at another fragrance oil on the vanity with her fingertip. It was anemone.

Reina picked it up.

From the bottom, slowly, being careful so that the comb does not pull her hair.

Reina started to stroke and comb down her hair after applying the moderately heated fragrance oil to the tips of her fingers.

Once with her fingers, once with the comb. The hair that gleamed with shine followed where they passed.

In the meantime, the lady’s mundane voice flowed in.

“What kind of person was your husband?”

“……”

Reina’s gaze stayed on Christina’s reflection in the mirror.

Without looking at Reina, Christina stared at the dried flowers on the dressing table and continued her words.

“I called you because I wanted to hear.”

“……”

…Husband.

Holding the comb, Reina’s memory started to climb up to that distant past.

“Does anyone object to this marriage, please raise your hand and speak now, or forever hold your peace.”

“In times of sorrow or joy, in sickness or health, not only when you are young but also as you age……”

“Until death do you part……”

“Do the two of you accept each other as husband and wife, to serve, cherish, and love?”

“……”

“Please sign the marriage vow.”
