The Emperor was surrounded by Vampires even in his final moments.

‘It may not have been a flower blooming from the Imperial Palace.’

There must surely be a reason why the flowers refused to bloom.

Unless, of course, they hadn’t known the former Empress was a Possessor.

It was strange how much the Emperor troubled my thoughts.

‘He misses her, yet carries guilt.’

Guilt for having betrayed the woman he loved himself.

That guilt must have led him to bind Kashar in such a way.

‘If I save the Vampires… might he release Kashar from his oath?’

Even if not that, perhaps it would at least open the door to conversation.

‘First, I need to check the state of the garden.’

I hid behind a tree and watched the entrance to the Imperial Palace.

Naturally, the guards were tight.

‘It’d be odd to ask the Emperor himself just to see the garden once.’

Indeed, sneaking in was the only option.
