“I’m hungry.”
What on earth was this situation?
I looked down at the children who were only half my size.
Their hair was coated with dust and ashgray; their dirty appearance contrasted sharply with their blue eyes, which sparkled mysteriously like sapphires.
“…….”
The two boys’ gazes were fixed on me.
Or rather, they were directed at the cup noodles in my hand.
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]All that could be seen was a dark corridor.
The cold rising from the mossy walls and marble floor made me shiver.
‘A castle? A temple? It looks like a building in Europe.’
I hadn’t actually been there, but we all had a civilization called the Internet.
However, this place was not as splendid as the historical sites posted on travel blogs.
‘I don’t believe in ghosts, but.’
It seemed closer to a wellmade haunted house than a gorgeous art museum.
I touched the mushrooms growing on the wall as I was lost in thought.
‘Why am I here?’
The newly opened large supermarket near my house was having a big sale.
‘Korean pork 1,110 won per 100g. Sweet pumpkins 500 won each. Cucumbers 5 for 1,000 won. Cup noodles 100 won each per person.’
The supermarket was packed during the evening hours.
Time sales and firstcomefirstserve sales were a war among housewives.
Especially the stand with cup noodles priced at 100 won each was…….
“What the heck?! Where are you looking while walking!”
“Look here, how old are you to speak informally!”
The scene was of men following their wives, politely asking each other’s ages.
With their respectful bows, the piledup cup noodles rolled in all directions.
“Oh my, stop it, please!”
A spicy beef soup cup noodle rolled through the scolding women.
It was a careless moment as I picked it up.
‘Huh?’
That moment, my head felt spinning.
‘Must be orthostatic hypotension.’
Thinking simply, I looked ahead, and everything had changed.
“……Where am I?”
Spores clung to my lowheeled clogs.
My long black dress and white apron swayed with my movement.
‘I was wearing sneakers and jeans, right?’
Glancing around, I saw a wall mirror far away.
I approached the mirror as if mesmerized.
“……Who?”
Brown hair reaching my chest. A pretty face with bright green eyes.
The dress the girl in the mirror was wearing was similar to a maid cosplay.
‘She looks like someone from the medieval era. A maid?’
The very unmatching thing was that the girl who looked like a maid was holding a cup noodle.
It was the same small, spicy beef soup cup as the one I had picked up.
‘Is this a dream?’
When I moved my hand, the girl in the mirror did the same. The cup noodles too.
“……Really strange.”
My voice was a little softer and more childish than usual.
“Ah, did I faint?”
Maybe I had collapsed while picking up the cup noodles.
If this was a dream, it all made sense.
‘I’ve been working hard lately.’
Every day was busy without a moment’s rest, juggling parttime jobs and looking for employment.
‘But even so.’
To collapse all of a sudden like this.
‘There were so many people in the supermarket… Wasn’t there a single person who could have helped?’
Holding the thread during the stonecatching ceremony, there was no need to worry.
‘So all I have to do is wait for the dream to end.’
The moment I thought that, I felt a growl.
A cry erupted from within my stomach.
“Why am I hungry in a dream?”
My stomach was crying out for food.
‘This can’t be real.’
I could feel both the hunger and the cold air around me.
‘If I’m cold, hungry, and sleepy…’
These were the three elements of a beggar.
I held my cup ramen dearly. It was a moment when the hot soup felt urgent.
‘Let’s fill up my stomach first.’
I held the cup ramen and walked past the mirror.
Luckily, I quickly found the kitchen.
I boil the water and wait.
That’s how cup ramen is.
“Careful, careful.”
Putting the soup in the cup ramen and pouring the water.
“Hmm, smells delicious.”
The delicious smell rose with the hot steam.
‘Now it’s time to wait.’
It was at that moment, with a relaxed mind, that I turned around.
“I’m hungry.”
“Ahhh!”
I almost threw the cup ramen I was holding.
‘What, there’s no one… Wait a minute.’
Only then did I think to lower my gaze.
‘Children?’
Dusty, dirty blonde hair.
The face was so pale that I almost mistook the blueeyed child for a little ghost, or rather, a phantom.
“Who are you?”
“I’m hungry.”
Startling my heart, all that returned was the answer that they were hungry.
The twins’ eyes were fixed on the cup ramen I was holding.
As the standoff with the incomprehensible little ones continued.
I cried out unconsciously.
“Ah, it’s been 3 minutes.”
My senses tell me.
The 3 minutes had just passed.
Thud.
I instinctively opened the lid.
‘Look at the steam.’
The delicious smell spread far more than when the lid was closed.
One of the little ones’ eyes sparkled.
The other child was also pretending not to look at the cup ramen.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
